War with Iran just in time for 2006 elections?
That's the theory Pat Buchanan has presented as a guest on Hardball.

Buchanan said that it would be a very good time to go into Iran, shortly before the 2006 elections as the move would place Bush in a strong position for keeping the country safe. In fact as guests played out the scenario, Buchanan, Dana Milbank and Matthews, the American public could go to sleep and wake up to the news that we have attacked Iran. Matthews appeared incredulous that they were even talking about such an event happening, however, all agreed that Bush's poll numbers would go up as it would pull the Congress and country together.

Buchanan stated that the Democrats; Clinton, Reid, Durbin, Biden....all the Democrats would vote for it as they would not want to be seen as not protecting the American people. And, he concluded, Clinton and Biden have been very vocal on the danger of Iran's nuclear weapons to the United States.

All agreed that the poll numbers would rise significantly for Bush, would probably not stay there but all that was needed is time to vote.

Well....there it is.

2. I am just a little startled by these statements.
I guess I never thought they would do it again. Hell, that would be three wars.

I do not believe the American people will support another war proposed by this administration. I just do not belive it.

3. Well you know how "THEY" are......if it worked, they'll do it again
until totally busted. With the media on their side, they never seem to get caught till way too late.

Just like this censure motion.....the Press is using that whole thing to make the Dems look back as a whole, instead of focusing on the actual censure issue and discussing the merits (it's got way merits which is why the media is deflecting the conversation to what cowards the Dems are--Which they are, but still, in the end, that's not gonna help us for the 2006 election).

I am so exhausted with the manipulation of each and every single issue that emerges in reference to Bushshit until I can barely stand to watch the Television (but I watch it cause I have to know how the manipulation is being done....cause I have to know my enemies)...and rarely can read a whole newspaper without blowing my nose in it prior to being finished with it!

Now the media is back to the "Bird Flu" scare. Oh brother! :eyes:

american people will look kindly on dubya attacking iran. it may have taken them a while, but i don't believe they'll appreciate getting hoodwinked again. how stoopid do they think we are? oh, right, as stupid as they are duplicitous. i don't think it will work.

7. I think they're wrong too.
The problem is, these people are so disconnected from reality that I can see them trying it on the theory that it would work.

I think they're dead wrong that it would help the poll numbers, but we still would have bombed Iran.

9. OMG - this is insane.
The fact that they are even talking about
going to war with Iran to increase ** polls numbers
shows one thing. These people need to be locked up.

Buchanan first. Matthews second.

My biggest fear, is someone from bushco watched that show, and
thought it was a great idea.

12. the American public is burned out on the Iraq war
that's the main reason for bush's slipping poll numbers.....I fail to see how starting another war we cannot possibly "win" is going to help those evil bastards
