About That Censure - Feingold on Ed Schultz
About That Censure
March 15th, 2006 @ 8:36 pm

Personally, I’m all in favor of censuring Bush. Quite frankly, I, like many Democrats would prefer impeachment. While, I’m glad to see that our Dem Senators are starting to pick up on this and support it, I get the sense this is going to take some time. We’ve got a lot on slate in the Senate right now, including an upcoming vote to save ANWR, yet again.

Russ Feingold was on the Ed Schultz Show today talking about his efforts to get support for his censure resolution. It was a very good and positive interview - listen here.

Feingold pointed out this is not about impeachment, it’s about censuring Bush because he broke the law. He was also very upbeat about the fact that it’s taking some time to get his colleagues on board. It was good to hear Feingold speak because the way the MSM and some bloggers have been painting this is totally contrary to what Feingold said today, in my opinion. What I got today, listening to the interview was that Feingold recognizes that there is a lot going on in the Senate that takes precedent.

1. I sure hope everyone who hasn't heard that tunes in!
Senator Feingold makes it pretty clear that we need to slow down on bashing other Democrats because, as he says in that interview, "it's only been 48 hours!"

Big Eddie Schultz has been going CRAZY with this story since Feingold first spoke out.

HE LOVES IT !!!!!

For the first time ever, Eddie was even putting Hillary Clinton down today if you can believe it!

He talked about how Hillary weasled out of the senate building today hiding behind Lisa Murkowski, who Eddie said "is all of 4' tall"..

His point was that Hillary seemed to be afraid to comment on the issue.

From what Eddie has been saying.. actually, SCREAMING the past couple of days on his show, he's found himself a new hero and candidate for '08!!

'Bout damn time!

11. As you mention, he makes a good point. We need to stop bashing,
it's only been 48 hours. Makes sense, don't you think?

2. So where did the comment about the other Dem's being cowards
come from. That comment has been repeated constantly by the media. Doe he claim he didn't make that claim?

I'm sure someone else here knows where that came from?

When you click on that link, it takes about 20 or so seconds for it to load, but it is SOOOOOooOoOOO worth listening to!

Feingold Accuses Democrats of 'Cowering'

(snip)

"Democrats run and hide" when the administration invokes the war on terrorism, Feingold told reporters.

Feingold introduced censure legislation Monday in the Senate but not a single Democrat has embraced it. Several have said they want to see the results of a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation before supporting any punitive legislation.

Republicans dismissed the proposal Tuesday as being more about Feingold's 2008 presidential aspirations than Bush's actions. On and off the Senate floor, they have dared Democrats to vote for the resolution.

"I'm amazed at Democrats ... cowering with this president's numbers so low," Feingold said.

(snip)

And NOW he goes on Ed Schultz and says it's wrong to bash Democrats? :eyes:

Sorry Russ, you lost a lot of points with this Democrat when you said other Democrats were "cowering" because they wouldn't immediately support a motion that you introduced without even talking to anyone else. Although I would like to know what was between those two words, that the reporter saw fit to excise. However, if the real statement was substantively different, Feingold should've had something to say about it. I haven't heard anything.

9. Yeah, Russ shouldn't be so forthcoming with the truth.
Some folks get offended at the truth. Difficult to fathom that concept, but you're right, it is true. Wish he could learn to hide the truth, like the rethugs do. And the cowards do.

10. After stirring up a hornet's nest
Yeah, he better backtrack. Maybe he realizes how stupid it is to try to run as the leader of the "cowardly" party.

5. I'd have to listen again
I don't think he said he that, but he makes it clear that he understands this will take sometime. He also makes it clear that this isn't about impeachment though some have construed that it was. Listen to the interview - http://audio.wegoted.com/podcasting/31506Feingold.mp3

6. Feingold Harry Reid handle it like a pro.
Says nobody was talking about the fact that Bush broke the law.

Verbatim:

Snip...

Now most people are saying how can we make what illegal things the president was doing legal, that's not the point. If there are changes in the law that are need, so be it and we'll work on it.

Snip..

And although this is an impeachable offense, we'd have to thing long and hard about the politics of actually removing the president from office over this matter.

Snip...

This is a moderate approach, this is one that just says let's spread it on historical record that this guy did the wrong thing, and maybe he'll apologize if we pass something like this.
