4. It's from today -- connected to this column mention:
Bet on a Bet but Not on a Ballot
By Richard Morin
Thursday, March 16, 2006; Page A02

It's easier to rig an electronic voting machine than a Las Vegas slot machine, says University of Pennsylvania visiting professor Steve Freeman.

That's because Vegas slots are better monitored and regulated than America's voting machines, Freeman writes in a book out in July that argues, among other things, that President Bush may owe his last win to an unfair vote count.

We'll wait to read "Was the 2004 Presidential Election Stolen? Exit Polls, Election Fraud, and the Official Count" before making a judgment about that. But Freeman has assembled comparisons that suggest Americans protect their vices more than they guard their voting rights, according to data he presented at an October meeting of the American Statistical Association chapter in Philadelphia.

8. try right clicking the graphic
and opening it (is that an option?) or 'view image'
then copy the url (in the location bar at top of your browser)

browsers use different wording, your's will offer something on the right-click

10. are you using firefox?
right click and select properties.
the top line of the box that opens will have a 'location' (but it's abbreviated in the box) click that line and select all, it will highlight what you can see of the address. Then copy/paste into your message. It will paste the whole address of the location.

i use an old netscape browser, so my options were different. I checked in firefox for the wording, if you have IE, someone else may offer the steps.

good luck.

16. Try this
Right click on the image and select "properties". When the properties box pops up it contains the URL for the image. Copy that URL and paste it to your post.

18. So here's what you do
At the bottom of the story/graphic page it says: "E-mail this graphic" click on that.

When the graphic is attached to the e-mail you have the last part of the image's URL. On this picture this message came up in the subject line: "Emailing: GR2006031600213.gif"

The URL for the story is "...washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2006/03/16/GR2006031600213.html" (where ... = http://) copy and paste this url, then copy the pertinent part of the graphic URL which is contained in the e-mail after hitting the "email this graphic button - in this case, "GR2006031600213.gif" over the similiar part of the story's URL, in this case "GR2006031600213.html". Or, in this case you can replace the .html with .gif since it appears the graphic and the story have very similar URLs.

And as always, do a preview to make sure the picture is there before you post.

Clear as mud?

22. It will be in properties after the right click.
Micorsoft can't do anything normally. After the properties pops up, check the tabs, it should have the URL to the photo you can copy and paste.

13. SEND TO ALL YOUR LOCAL PAPERS --- This is a HUGE step presswise.
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 12:55 PM by blm
The graphics editor at WP is apparently NOT on BushInc's payroll.

Getting a graphic that explains it so simply is a big boost for the whole story. It shows the story has picked up on the press' inner attention meter.

19. DUers! Be sure to click thru to the article to register a page view!!!!!!!
Clicking through i svery important. These sites are measuring and analalyzing traffic 24/7

Just click. Then stay on the page long enough to have read it. That measurement is called stickiness.

25. The 4 paragraph summaries on DU are great BUT we really make a difference
when we click through. When we click through we show the media what kinds of articles the public wants journalists to cover. DU can be a rolling Nielsen family.
