Message to DUers (and all Progressives): I don't care about 2008!
Not yet anyway.

2006 is of greater concern to me, and it should be for you too.

4. Been trying to stress that
Every time I see a message about who is running in 08, I cringe.
The repukes want us to take our eyes off the ball in play, November 2006. We must win in November so we can start to turn this ship around.

2008 will come soon enough, if we win 2006.

5. Said it myself...
Sometimes people even remember that.

Fight each battle as it comes. Look too far ahead and you don't see how the battlefield shifts until it's too late.

6. I would agree too.....
but until we get campaign reform, candidates have to start earlier and earlier to raise the funds JUST TO ENTER THE PRIMARIES !

Also, many of the Dems are working very hard on 2006, I like to hear about those events too!

I know John Edwards is even featuring State Legislators as well:

Some info here:

Our nation has gone dangerously off course, and we can't wait until 2008 to get it back on track.

Instead of waiting for change to come from the federal level — which is unlikely so long as Republicans control Congress and the White House — we at the One America Committee are making changes now by working directly at the state level.

Earlier last year, we launched "Raising the States," a grassroots project that helps Democrats build and maintain majorities in state legislatures across the country. State legislatures often determine how their states address poverty, health care, education, and other issues that matter to working Americans. With more Democrats in position to make these key decisions, we can pass crucial reforms that would lift millions of working Americans out of poverty. And with more Democrats winning elections and showing what our Party is capable of, we will energize and strengthen our Democratic Party.

That's why Senator Edwards has spent the last year traveling around the country raising money for Democratic candidates. He knows what they're up against. They face a formidable GOP fundraising smear and money machine, powered by the special interests, corporate money and national donors that converge wherever there is a chance to pick up a seat for the GOP. These GOP groups pour so much money into state campaigns because they know the stakes are high.

At the One America Committee, we believe that a Democrat should never lose an election simply because he or she didn't have the funds needed to compete. As Democrats, it's our job to level the playing field for our candidates. "Raising the States" is a grassroots campaign; it's powered by individuals like you. To keep it going strong, Senator Edwards needs your help.

14. That's fine, but what I don't get is how certain DUers
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 07:15 AM by Clark2008
feel it's necessary to always barge in on 2008 threads and yell that we shouldn't be concerned about that, yet.

Hell, I can chew gum and walk at the same time, so why can't I think about 2006 AND 2008 at the same time? It's not that I'm not doing anything about 2006, it's just that I can do something about both.

Work on 2006 and work hard, but look to 2008, as well. It's not difficult.

P.S. I'm not flaming you, OP - I'm just pointing out that this board can handle both series of conversations.

16. Both are important, no doubt
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 12:10 PM by ih8thegop
We have more than 2 1/2 years to focus on 2008 and less than 230 days to focus on 2006.

If you can focus on 2006 and 2008, great. But I don't think many people here who focus on 2008 give as much thought to 2006.

17. Same here.
I don't want to see one more poll about who I like for '08.
I don't like anyone at this point. I want to get through the Nov. elections
and go from there.

For driving the message home! I'm not concerned for our party's nominee in the Pres, because unless we neutralize BushCo FAST, it won't matter.

As it is, the bill for BushCo's shenanigans is coming due on the next president's watch, and there are some horrible consequences.

I figure ten years minimum to fix the damage.
