2. Probably not.
He's not a standard issue post-Gingrich Republican. He's more like the way they used to build them in the 1960s and early 1970s.

4. That raises interesting questions.
Will another Republican of Boehlert's stripe run for the seat, or will the Dems pick this one up?

In my district, we had for many years a liberal to moderate Republican, Connie Morella, in Congress. I recall a get-out-the-vote call where I had to argue with a voter who insisted "Connie is not a Republican." She would avoid mentioning her party, and her politics were such that she appealed to Democrats in the district.

However, the next time out, the district had been altered slightly, the Democrats ran a strong candidate, and Morella, sad to report, went negative. Chris Van Hollen picked up the seat and still holds it. The last time out, the Republicans ran someone with an endorsement from Ed Meese :eyes: and links to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth on his website. Needless to say, that didn't win him the seat.

6. Sherry's a good guy
Sherry's an old fashion moderate-to-liberal Republican, and at some points in his career he was considered the most liberal Republican in the House. In a district with a Republican majority, he was a very strong leader who, while a Republican, was approved by many Dems in this area.

The Dem challenger will probably be Oneida County District Attorney Michael Acuri. He'll probably be facing off against New York State Senator Ray Meier...who's a typical Republican from upstate.

This is the best chance for the Dems to take this seat, and I think that it's possible to switch this one from red to blue.

Finally...a competitive election in my area. I'm excited. :)
