(since the resignation of our lone progressive, the entire council is repuke. any further ideas on how to kick their butts would be greatly appreciated. (by the way, the mayor's assistant just sighs when she hears my voice)
Below is a copy of the letter I sent to the mayor and city council members on the refusal to release the results of the audit of our miserable transit system:
To Lionel Rivera and Council Members,
It was with the usual mix of disgust and total lack of surprise that I read, in yesterday's Gazette, that you, OUR REPRESENTATIVES, have decided NOT to release the results of the audit of our transportation system, an audit that clearly indicates that there are serious problems with that system. Worse, you are so indifferent, and apparently lazy, that you yourselves couldn't even be bothered to read the entire report, much less look at the recommendations.
May I remind you that the money that funds this system is OUR money, and we have every right to know where each and every penny of it is spent (or, often, mis-spent). And we have every right to expect our elected (and paid-for-by-us) representatives, to actually represent us, and to take an interest in where that money is going, and to not keep us in the dark.
I can only assume, from this refusal to permit the PEOPLE (those whom you are supposed to represent) to see what is going on, that there are serious problems that you are trying to hide. Otherwise, there would be no reason to keep this report on OUR transit system from us. Cui bono? One can only guess.
It would be wonderful if we actually had a mayor and council who represented the people, who protected our interests, but, alas, such is not the case here.
In total disgust,
