Rumsfeld:Leaving Iraq like giving Nazis Germany
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Leaving Iraq now would be like handing postwar Germany back to the Nazis, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in a column published on Sunday, the third anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.

"Turning our backs on postwar Iraq today would be the modern equivalent of handing postwar Germany back to the Nazis," he wrote in an essay in The Washington Post.

Rumsfeld said "the terrorists" were trying to fuel sectarian tensions to spark a civil war, but they must be "watching with fear" the progress in the country over the past three years.

I know I shouldn't have done it DU'ers. I know. I know. But take heart-when they KNOW it's over-and they know-they know the American people are not going to stand for this sham war much longer-they up the propaganda. Just like Brit Hume. Desperate fools. Hoping it's obvious to more with comments like this.

1. Rummy the Dummy speaks again.
"The terrorists ... must be 'watching with fear' the progress in the country over the past three years."

Yes, with all the 'progress' we've made, they must be shakin' in their boots!

5. Two differences between Iraq and WWII
1 we didn't start WWII
2 We had a plan to end it.

If we had met the Russians at the center of Berlin in 1945....then had to go back and bomb Paris again three years later, the "greatest generation" would have been just as outraged as we are today.

Dear Sirs:

I find it odd that you should continue to provide an additional forum for Secretary Rumsfeld to rehash the Bush administration's memes about "staying the course" and all the progress that's been made already in the Iraqi quagmire. It is as if the transcription and reiteration by major media outlets of the government's fallacious talking points does not suffice. Also, we should take into consideration that this is the same credible source who before the war famously stated about Saddam's WMDs that "We know where they are; they're in the area around Tikrit."

"Turning our backs on postwar Iraq today would be the modern equivalent of handing postwar Germany back to the Nazis," he ominously predicts. I disagree. I consider the modern equivalent of handing postwar Germany to the Nazis to be the Supreme Court's 2000 decision stopping the Florida recount and handing the US government to this criminal cabal that has hijacked our government. And the PATRIOT Act is our equivalent of the Nazis' Enabling Act.

America über alles.

8. Uhm - That's exactly what they did

After WW2, the west German administration, especially the rank&file, was constructed from ("former") Nazis. It took twenty years for that to wear off.

The rationale was that there was no other way to get a working system from scratch. One of the major errors after the Iraq war was not to leave the system intact.

12. Precisely
By completely destroying the bureaucratic system that existed under Saddam and disbanding the professional military, the administration completely derailed their efforts to rebuild the country. You cannot simply build institutions from scratch. But then again, to know that you would have to be capable of thinking beyond "victory."
