The pictures of the Iraqi children I took to the rally and march:

These were the pictures of the children that I put on the cross that I carried at the rally and march in Boston on March 17, 2006. The links to more pictures can be found in my journal.

The idea started with several posts:
One from fearnobush:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x672390
I used the third picture from that post:
It shows three men crying over the bodies of three children.

Then I saw another post by spacebuddy who started me thinking. It was entitled:

HELP STOP a war ON IRAN BEFORE IT BEGINS ! *Photo OPeration*

http://www.progressiveindependent.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=18827

That post contained the pictures of happy, healthy children from Iran or Iraq.

It also had the following profound quotes:

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
- Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

"War is as outmoded as cannibalism, chattel slavery, blood-feuds, and dueling, an insult to God and humanity
...a daily crucifixion of Christ."

~Muriel Lester

"War would end if the dead could return."

~Stanley Baldwin

That middle quote gave me the idea of using the injured children's' pictures on a cross. We are quite literally crucifying them.

Next, Judy lynn led me to the following site:
http://www.awitness.org/journal/real_iraq_war.html

This site is very graphic, but I was able to find a picture of a badly burned child. I suggest that you see that picture on Judy Lynn's post instead of using the link above. Here is hers:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x686999#687513

Then Judy Lynn suggested the following:
http://www.krysstal.com/democracy_iraq_war01.html
That site has four galleries (See bottom of each page for links to the other pages)
In gallery one, I used the third and fourth pictures:
#3. "Child - another bombing victim"
#4. "a frightened child in the hospital"

And from gallery 3, I used pictures # 8 & 9:
#8. "Nine year old Shahid Halid injured after the bombing that killed her mother"
#9. "Twelve year old Ishmail Abbas lies injured and without arms in a Baghdad hospital after air strikes.

Judy Lynn then suggested another site with very graphic pictures, but I did use one of an infant in the hospital, screaming. It is the second one on the last row. Try not to look at the rest.Link:
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=Iraq+phosphorus

Then Clare T led me to this link from an earlier post of hers: Images from the war zone:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x686999#690401
I used pictures # 3 & 4 from her post.
#3. Three men crying over the bodies of three children.(also mentioned above from a different source)
#4. A girl crying with tanks in the background.

Clara T then suggested another site:
http://www.marchforjustice.com/3.22.php
There are a lot of pictures of children there. I chose the following, but others would have also been helpful:
March 25. #1. Picture of a scared little girl with bombs going off in the background.
April 1;# 7. Man in turban holding wounded girl in purple shawl.
May 28 #1. Boy in hospital with picture that says "NO WAR"

Somewhere I also found a picture of a boy missing an eye, evidently from a very recent injury. I cannot find the link right now, but will look.

When I figure out how to copy pictures from one place to another, I will try to post all the pictures themselves. Any technical assistance would be appreciated. I am a real technoclutz.

I just wanted to show what a joint effort this was and to thank everyone who contributed information and/or encouragement. :grouphug:

1. These pictures should
be on the front page of newspapers across the country. Is this the "progress" bush is lauding in his latest Iraq War promotion tour?

3. Precicely. But, it the media won't show them, then we have to do it.
We can download pictures and start putting them everywhere, in our huses of worship, our activists headquarters, our community bullitin boards, our offices, anywhere we can think of and to encourage our indy media critters to do the same.
The children can't wait for the MSM to notice.

4. I just posted how to find the pictures and that post has been entered in
my journal. Link:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2523130&mesg_id=2523130

I am sorry that I could not post the pictures directly. I am technically challenged. If anyone wants to try to teach a mom cat something, just let me know.
This is definately worth the effort to get the pictures out there. If you have any ideas on how to do that, feel free to make suggestions.
And just be creative. If you have an insight, go with it and let us know how it worked.

2. Thank you so much for all you are doing ~ and for this excellent post
I think that if people see the real cost of this war, it will end ~ it's sad that the media doesn't tell the real story of the heartache and tragedy that this archaic war is causing. Thank you for doing their job for them. I don't know how they can sleep at night ~

I read this week that the number of Iraqis killed in this war is now closer to 250,000 with no end in sight!

Burying the Lancet report . . . and the children

Over a year ago, an international team of epidemiologists headed by Les Roberts of Johns Hopkins School of Public Health completed a "cluster sample survey" of civilian casualties in Iraq. Its findings contradicted central elements of the narrative of the war that politicians and journalists had presented to the American public and the world.

After excluding the results from Anbar province as a statistical anomaly and half the increase in infant mortality as possible "recall bias," they estimated that at least 98,000 Iraqi civilians had died in the previous 18 months as a direct result of the invasion and occupation of their country. They also found that violence had become the leading cause of death in Iraq during that period (51 percent or 24 percent with or without Anbar). However, their most significant finding was that the vast majority (79 percent) of violent deaths were caused by "coalition" forces using "helicopter gunships, rockets or other forms of aerial weaponry," and that almost half (48 percent) of these were children, with a median age of eight.

When the team's findings were published in the Lancet, the official journal of the British Medical Association, they caused quite a stir, and it seemed that the first step had been taken toward a realistic accounting of the human cost of the war. The authors made it clear that their results were approximate; they discussed the limitations of their methodology at length and emphasized that further research would be invaluable in giving a more precise picture.

A year later, we do not have a more precise picture. Soon after the study was published, American and British officials launched a concerted campaign to discredit its authors and marginalize their findings without seriously addressing the validity of their methods or presenting any evidence to challenge their conclusions. Today the continuing aerial bombardment of Iraq is still a dark secret to most Americans, and the media still present the same general picture of the war, focusing on what appear in the light of this study to be secondary sources of violence.

Much more at the link.

6. If true, then it should be called what it is imo, genocide ~ and the claim
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 05:53 PM by Catrina
that we are liberating the Iraqi, which had little merit to begin with, now has zero merit. There should be condemnations from all over the world for this travesty and those who lied to start this war, should be called to account for what they've done.

In another thread, I read that if we reverse this situation and pretend that it was the US which was invaded, we would have to take the numbers of Iraqi deaths and injuries and muliply them by approximately 11 to appreciate what % of the population has died, in real numbers.

So, doing that, assuming that 650,000 Iraqis have died, it would be approximately 2,000,000 Americans ~ I'm wondering when the world will officially object to this carnage. All who remain silent now are complicit, imo.

Thank you for the article ~ :-(

Edited to say that if you want to post a picture, all you need do is rightclick your mouse over the picture you want to post. Click on 'properties' to get the URL. Then simply post the URL and the picture should appear ~

7. All that it can be called now is genocide. The US government is
now in the hands of a brutal crime syndicate. If we do not take that premise seriously, we are doomed.
PS, Thanks for the posting tips. I knew there had to be a secret.

16. Thanks so much for posting these photos. They are innocent little people.
Their world has been destroyed. Their lives are permanently altered in ways our pampered blood thirsty President and his gang could NEVER endure. These children never had a choice. Bush did. This is his idea of how he wants to be remembered.

17. This is the best strategy we have
They played the "shock" card years ago when they displayed images of aborted fetuses on their protest signs. It's past time to play the same card and see them a few hundred thousand.

Somewhere a while back on DU I posted about a sign on my car along with a pic of an Iraqi father holding his dead child and some others you have posted here. A lady in a red car with anti-choice stickers all over it became enraged behind me and nearly ran over people passing me once we turned into the shopping center parking lot.

She really lost it I guess because these images of what America has done to these children are far more horrendous than what abortion does, and she knows it. If they don't want federal funds spent for abortion, they goddamned better understand I don't want federal dollars spent to kill Arab children.

To mark the third anniversary of this crapfest, I watched Control Room for the first time. My favorite person in the documentary said, in effect, "You are America. You can beat everyone. Okay. Good for you. But you want your cake and to eat it too." He was referring to Rumsfield bitching because AL Jazeera showed these images of dead and maimed children. NeoCOns cannot stand the truth.

Good work, mom cat, and thanks for assembling the pics into one thread. :headbang:

This was my birthday. I hope she is alright. Please let her be safe!

I just want it to stop now! No more little children with that look on their faces ever again. It's almost unbearable to just imagine. How must it be to live it?!!!

I would die a horrible death if it would end this madness. Right now. If only it could be that easy.
