Artificial Insemination, Lesbians and the religious right
60 minutes had a story on sperm donors last night and they interviewed a lesbian couple who had a baby via artificial insemination and their eventual discovery of who the donor was. As I was watching the show, I heard the pages ruffling as our life loving religious zealots were scanning the bible looking for what was wrong with that picture. In the eyes of zealots it is wrong on so many levels. Artificial? Lesbians? A fetus in one of them?

Do you think zealots love the fetuses inside lesbians? We all know they will not give a fuck about them after they become little babys in a loving family. What should be their solution? Burning at the stake? Public hanging? Stoning? Is this the catalyst for them to start building the ovens? I love it when the constitution trumps the bible (in this country.) To support and defend and identify enemies thereof.

1. I wonder
if a lesbian was raped in So.Dakota and impregnated if they'd allow an abortion in that case?
The program was wonderful. Amazing all those kids looked alike. Strange the mother's DNA didn't seem to surface.

4. The woman would be forced to bear the child...
Then it would be removed by the state because she is "obviously" an immoral, unfit mother; the child would then be placed with a good Christian family where the father works and the mother -- like a proper woman -- stays home and takes care of the litter.

8. Something like that.
Yeah, forced adoption. For instance, I think many would be just fine with the system in The Handmaid's Tale.

2. They want us to be dragged off in the middle of the night...
hooded, and dissapeared.

These zeolots will burn in hell for the hate that they spew!!

We as a community and a country have to stand up and protect the persecuted....because one day they will come after those who stood by and let it happen!!

If you haven't seen the movie V for Vendeta please go see it...!!

3. That was an interesting piece--what a promising bunch of kids!!
But the thought that was going through my mind was that as formerly anonymous donors come forward, I'll bet there is at least one DA someplace who's just salivating at the prospect of nullifying that contract and collecting back child support.

5. Similar thoughts here too
Although the doctor they profiled made, at my calculation, $10,000 by "donating." (50 bucks a pop times 200 donations) Its a risky gamble. One day some of these kids may want "Daddy" to pay for College. Most likely not on the mind of a college student jacking off to pay his bills.

6. Technically, there is no ban on lesbianism in the bible
The Leviticus quote that the thumpers love to trot out says that man shall not lay with man as he does with woman. No similar prohibition for women doing the same thing.

7. But stoning to death people who work on the sabbath
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 02:37 PM by BOSSHOG
is in leviticus. So how come good "christians" aren't killing all the folks working down at the local Wal-Mart every sunday morning? You are not suggesting that "christians" just pick and choose in the bible the passages that justify their actions are you?

I prefer living my life by that document I spent so many years supporting and defending. And there is no doubt in my head and in my heart that "christians" in America today are the number enemy of that document.

9. Excuse me
Where in the hell in my post do you get the idea I'm "defending" the fundies in this country? Do people at DU bother thinking before they respond, or just jerk their knees?

10. I seldom use the icons
so there is no "sarcasm" on my post. I thought it was obvious. I'm not sure; do people on DU bother to think before they respond?
