1. I have two posts here at DU questioning Lindorff on things he wrote.
I do not like the way he totally disregards truth about the role of the DNC. I am glad someone let Howard Dean know about his lack of understanding. I like Dean's statement, and I think Lindorff does not understand Democratic party structure.

Howard Dean asked for support for Feingold, and Jim Dean at DFA called for bringing the president to justice.

What won't some on the left do to present the party in a wrong light.

"The DNC is not in the business of telling Congress to go easy on this President," Dean wrote. "I'd be grateful if you could correct the report."

Go, Howard.

2. Lindorff is still repeating an untruth in that article.....and he gloats.
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 02:07 PM by madfloridian
"The "mainstream" Democratic losers like Rep. Rahm Emanuel and Sen. Charles Schumer, who want the Democratic Party to remain a top-down, hollowed-out shell of an organization incapable of challenging Republican power, are frightened silly by the groundswell of public sentiment for impeachment, and for ending the war in Iraq. While Dean, as DNC chair, may be trying his best to shift the party in a more progressive and oppositional direction, they are busy undercutting progressive candidates for office, financing "acceptable" candidates (who are likely to lose their races), and preventing independent action and confrontation in Congress ala Feingold's motion."

He was written to personally about this misstatement, by many people. The Opednews where he first wrote it was contacted, no answer.

It was explained that the DSCC and DCCC had the role of choosing candidates....

Then he gloats because Dean asked him to print the truth:

"But it is a good sign that Chairman Dean is asking for a correction. It's a sign that the grassroots rebellion against Democratic Party complacence is having an impact. "

Oh, gee, Lindorff, you print wrong things, you are asked to correct it, and you think it is sign of getting to the bad Democrats.

3. IMHO Counterpunch has never been that picky about getting thier facts
straight. I always kind of cringe when it is touted in GD:P as some kind of unimpeachable source. Anyway, Go Dr. Dean!

4. "The DNC is not in the business of telling Congress to go easy on ...
the president" Please correct this.
Howard Dean.

Good for him. I am tired of the misinfo coming from some of the so-called left media.

5. The People At 'counterpunch', Ma'am
Are not on our side. At bottom, they are nothing but faux revolutionists, who enjoy the posture and pretense of commitment to something they know to be an absolute impossibility, and so does not require of them any real action, or any seriousness of thought. Rather like someone on a mo-ped sporting a "Hell's Angels" patch whilst tootling about a suburban sub-division....

"Revolution is not a tea-party."

6. Lindorff thinks Dean's email shows him to be a big journalist.
A lot of folks let Dean know what was going on, the bloggers at DNC are really on the ball. This is a matter of truth. And you are so right about Counterpunch.

Now they are going to spin the fact that they were wrong, Dean was right, and that they are more important now because they were wrong and got corrected.

:banghead: :banghead:

How do you spell that Dean scream thingy?

8. This is the paragraph Dean asked Lindorff to correct, I think.
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 03:02 PM by madfloridian
We posted something here about it at the time..saying it was not true. Lindorff knows exactly what he is doing. He has been corrected on this by many.

http://www.counterpunch.com/lindorff03072006.html
"While researching our book on impeachment (The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing George W. Bush from Office, St. Martin's Press, due out in late April), my co-author Barbara Olshanshky and I have found that members of Congress-even firebrands like Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Cynthia McKinney (D-GA)-have been strong-armed behind the scenes by the Democratic National Committee not to introduce an impeachment bill in the House. Rep. John Conyers, the ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, where such a bill would be considered, has submitted three bills that relate to impeachment-a proposal for a special committee to investigate possible impeachable crimes by the administration and bills to censure both the president and the vice president for refusing to answer questions from Congress on impeachment-related issues--but that's as far as the Democratic congressional leadership is willing to go."

Is this the one Dean refers to? Is Lindorff going to put this stuff into his book, or has he? Where was truth end and just plain lies begin on the right or on the left. This is just a lie.

These are Lindorff's credentials. He owes it to us to present more truth than this. His credentials are worthy, his criticisms of the DNC are not worthy, they are unwarranted.

This is the author:
"Dave Lindorff, grudging treasurer of the Philly
Local of the NWU, has been a journalist since 1973
and a full-time freelancer since 1979. A founder
of the National Writers Union, he was active in the
union's formative years in New York, as a member of
the New York local's steering committee.

A writer for such publications as Salon.com,
Business Week, The Nation, In These Times, and
others, he is also author of "Marketplace Medicine:
The Rise of the For-Profit Hospital Chains" (Bantam
1992). He recently published "Killing Time," the first
independent book about the death-penalty case of
Philadelphia journalist and former Black Panther
activist Mumia Abu-Jamal (Common Courage Press, 2002)."
