The President is supposed to appear before the press and answer questions. ANd the press is supposed to ask tough questions of those in power. Bush appeared and there were some tough questions asked. Let the people interpret it how they will. We at DU will continue to tell it like we see it.

2. Keeping up appearances in a codependent relationship

that produces dysfunctional democracy is how I see it. Every so often the president has to demonstrate mastery (or at least survive) these tests to appear that he is doing his job and every so often the press has to create the appearance that it is still a watchdog, a relevant 4th branch of government. Today that's how they're going to make their news. Tomorrow they will go back to trading in the same ol' Washington insider gossip.
