The Next President Will be Inheriting this Evil War

In today's press conference with the Washington press corp, the chimp was asked a few questions on the war..

Paraphrasing, Bush was asked by one reporter if he planned to end this war before the end of his term ...

If memory serves me, Bush responded essentially by saying the outcome of the war will be in the hands of the next administration(s).

This of course is the worst possible scenario, for the Iraqi people, and the U.S. service personnel sent over there to fight this evil enterprise. But it is also the worse case scenario for the Democratic Party, imo.

But it occurs to me that the Neo Cons within the party leadership in the party are likely relishing the notion to be given the opportunity to re-establish our hawkisih creds for the benefit of future political purposes. Personally, I think this outcome will be disasterous for the party. I honestly hope we'll not be heading down that road as a party, and then, as a country.

Sam Seder said just about the same this morning (in for Al Franken this week). I am still reeling from it! That one statement should be the headline of every newspaper and talk show. It is absolutely stunning, even from this heartless bastard. He allowed 9/11 to happen but he didn't get his oil. So, what, he is just bored with the whole mess now? He will just retire with his (borrowed) wealth and leave it to others to clean it up?

And you hit on just three of them. It's a life-long pattern for George to make a big mess and leave it for someone else to clean up while he moves on to the next great adventure in his life. But what can he do after he's been president? I'm hoping that he will assume the great anonymity and obscurity he deserves, imprisoned in Texas because he can't venture outside the tightly circumscribed borders of the prison he's so assiduously constructed for himself.

I can't believe he said that! Has he ever before indicated that the troops were there for at least the duration of his term? And doesn't that indicate that his objectives have nothing to do with what is actually going on in Iraq, but simply to have a military presence in the Middle East?

13. Actually, this may well be a case of our being handed lemons .....

..... and being able to make lemonade.

Not to minimize the horror of it all with that analogy, but there's every reason to think that, if we pick the right person in 08, we can show this country and the world that the US really **is** the shining beacon it once was.

I can't help but think that a reasonable and inclusive foreign policy on our part will pay huge dividends in the various middle east capitols. An American president who isn't from the 'with us or fuck you' school of leadership can change things in a real way.

If there were no other issues but this, I'd be looking for a leader with serious foreign policy bona fides for the next Dem standard bearer.

If the next president (who will be a Dem) can change things for the better, they'll be even more discredited than they are now. To be sure, the RW will be free to parse and whine, wail and groan, piss and moan .... and sling mud as only they can. But actions and reality trump bullshit.

I was thinking about this on my way to work.

WHOEVER is the nominee of Democratic Party will have a better advantage with the issue of the war. People are FED up and want us out of Iraq. The Democrats need to run on a "get out of Iraq" platform.

The GOP nominee will have to tip toe around the fact that the war is a disaster. With Dimson looking over their shoulder, their nominee can't start bashing the failed policy of previous admin.

This is one of the reasons I'm thinking that Clark would be a great candidate for us.

He would order the troops home with the first breath he takes after taking the oath of office. We need to make sure we elect such a person.
