They shiite majority would elect a fundamentalist shiite religious party. They already have. Iraq is not a nation. It is a forced collection of three major ethnic groups that have little in common. The Kurds have already separated themselves in all but name from the rest of 'Iraq'. The Sunnis are not going to live under a shiite theocracy.

Iraqis may despair of the current situation and the total lack of security, but it's clear that the Shiite majority and the Kurds would not prefer Saddam. They may or may not hate the U.S. They unequivocally hate Saddam. The Sunnis only constitute something like 20% of the Iraqi population.
