Is this real (voice prompting Bush)?
The video at this link has a voiceover apparently picked up by a stray mike or signal that seems to be prompting Bush. Is this what it appears to be? Is is feedback, a joke or a hoax? Anybody know?

1. Just feedback
The voice has the same intonation and accent as Bush and there is also a voice "prompting" the reporter who asks a question.

2. Sounds like a feedback effect.
The voice has Bushes accent and inflections. Says "nucular", for example.

3. I've Looked And Listened To This Clip Many Times......
I know that people here on DU have attributed the voice to feedback or something explainable. BUT - if you listen carefully you will notice two things:

1. When * is talking - first you hear a voice and it sounds like his voice - then you hear and see him repeat the line. Hear voice - repeat. Hear voice - repeat. At one time - you hear the voice say something like - I look forward to workin with him and you hear * flub the line - "I look workin" and then he corrects himself. This to me suggests that he is being prompted with his own voice.

2. Later when a person asks him a question - it sounds just the opposite. You hear the person ask the question then it appears that the question is repeated. Just reverse of #1. Hear question - hear question repeated. Hear question - hear question repeated.

What I think is happening is this: Could it be that * practices his speeches before hand and they record him. Then they use his recorded voice with the practiced delivery as his prompt. This way they can say - if discovered - yes he is being prompted - but by himself. This gets away from him being prompted from KKKarl or someone else and makes it look more legitimate that it is pure * all the way through.

With respect to the questioner in my #2 above. Could it be that this tape was doctored to make it look like it was just feedback that we were hearing? Except - they did the doctoring in reverse hoping that no one would catch it.

If this is the case and they are using *'s own voice to prompt him - it would account for his choppy delivery in many of his speeches. We just hear the one voice - his - when we listen to him talk. But he does pause in between most sentences. We think he pauses for effect and/or to receive applause. But in reality he is pausing to hear what his next line is. I wonder if he can read?

Just my theory on this. Listen again to the clip and check it out for yourself. I'm curious if others will agree with me.

5. What about at the end when he answers a question?
I guess the question was scripted and the answer prompted in the same way?

6. Good Point - But How Come You Don't Get The Same Feedback When....
Chirac is speaking? Instead you hear an interpreter.

7. Pretend it's Sesame Street and it makes sense.
These problems happen sometimes at the UN because of several languages involved. W has a habit of mangling things and the official translated feed may be the only good copy. Ditt Ditt on the question and answer portion. The man cannot string four words together with exposing his fried brain.

8. Ok so now for a more likely answer....
What you are hearing is the translation circuit. When Chirac speaks you hear a woman giving the english translation of his words. When Bush speaks you hear Bush's words directly. I agree that the "real" Bush flubs a line, but that does not mean that the other feed is a prompt for him, but could merely be a prerecorded version of the speech so that french translators can more easily provide realtime translations - ie they get the sentence shortly before he actually says it so they are reading the translation AS he says it.

There would be two such circuits - an English ciruit where the speeches etc are in English, and a French circuit in with the whole show in French.

I believe he IS being prompted - by a teleprompter. Which is synced to feed lines to him at the same pace as he recorded them earlier. The end result is a perfectly choreographed performance that is instantly translated into multiple languages error free.
