Poll question: DU 2008 Presidential Primary Poll ... Who would you support as of today?

I've added Al Gore b/c I think he can be persuaded. The other names have been taken from ABC's "Presidential Invisible Primary Ratings." I'm taking the top few Dems and adding a few others for our resident sock puppets and/or independents. If your choice is not listed, please post who you support.

I don't wish to "debate" here, but to get a feel for those who are participating today.

Feingold on the bottom would have gotten the party's base more firmly behind Gore and plus it would have done the same with Jewish voters as Lieberman. Gore/Wellstone would have done this even better ticket because Wellstone was more well known by the party's liberal base. 2/3rds of Nader's vote share would have been lost due to the prospect of Wellstone or Feingold being a heartbeat away from the presidency.

20. Clark is the one with his eye firmly on 2006

He hasn't concentrated on raising money for himself, but he's consistently been there for Democrats across the country (he just was raising money for Democrats in Ohio and he keynotes the North Dakota State Democratic Convention on April First for example).

But I am proud to support Clark for 08. He is a man with the courage of his convictions, who speaks directly and never dumbs down his message. He is not a product or the servant of a Party or Special Interest machine, and he appeals to voters across the board in every region of the nation. I think Clark can break through the Republican noise machine. He has done amazingly well at doing that during his FOX commentary appearances. Our nation will still be in a mess, and the world will still be a dangerous place in 2008, made more so by the current Bush regime. I think voters will trust the Presidency to Clark, but for me electability is just sweet gravy, I think Clark will make an excellent President.

All of the other potential candidates are blowing their horns for themselves, but General Clark is doing the right thing by campaigning to get control of one or both houses of Congress. If the Dems don't get some majority in Congress, there probably won't be any Dem in the White House and we'll be stuck exactly where we are for ??? years.

Clark is the extraorginary strategist that we need, and he sets out the proper priorities to get where the Dems need to go to win "anything". That's one reason he's doing the FAUX net gig....

He's got more under that "24 karat" silver "dome" than most people realize. He wasn't the NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe because he was just tootin' his own horn....he had to govern ALL of the NATO allied troops in ALL OF EUROPE....housing, schools, health care, etc. He was the "governor" (if you will) in charge of about anything a state governor would. And if he hadn't worked his a-- off, he certainly wouldn't have accomplished what he has.... He's on more corporate boards than most any governor or senator I've heard of.

Give his credentials some thought....he's our best opportunity to change this country back to what it could be....the best!

A lot can happen between now and the start of the primary season. Certainly the 2006 will determine whether the Democratic Party is already on life support.

Watch the census and you will see the mass migration - and electoral votes - from the blue north and northeast, to the red south and southeast.

As many have observed - all politics is local. As long as we do not have draft, the war in Iraq, the deficit, the wiretapping and the antics of Libby do not touch the personal lives of most voters. Certainly not the lives of Karl Rove's crowd for whom "baby killing" and "perverts" resonate a lot more immediately and personal.

Until we leave the talks about censure and impeachment and wiretapping aside and start talking about schools, and heath care, and jobs, and retirement, and make it personal, we will continue to lose members of Congress.

So I would like to see how presidential wannabe handle the 2006 elections, and how they plan to make it personal, to the voters. And, no, not by saying, like Kerry "how they personally oppose to abortion" and perhaps even to gay marriage, but to frame the questions in a way that matter.

Oh, and this time last cycle, Joe Lieberman topped everyone's list.

That would be a really good ticket and draw a lot of the Hispanic vote. It would certainly get mine.

The one thing I don't want to do is weaken ourselves in either house of Congress, but especially not the Senate. That knocks out Clinton, Feingold, Warner, McCain and Kerry.

A Gore/Clark or Clark/Gore ticket would certainly be interesting, but I can't see either of them being willing to settle for second banana.

Clark/Edwards shows promise, with the possible benefit of 8 years to groom Edwards for the reigns of power.

Interesting how nobody seems to have mentioned Dean. I suppose that is an example of how even we moderates and liberals are susceptible to the right wing media juggernaut and it's endless propaganda.

I guess I don't find any poll too scientific at this point given we don't even know who's running.

I'm not quibbling with your poll questions. I just find it intriguing that in poll after poll of Democrats nationally, Hillary Clinton leads the bunch (and yes I know much of that is name recognition), but General Clark and Russ Feingold don't even register out of single digits.

DU polls, however, tell quite a different story.

Which leads to me believe that either all the Hillary supporters here do not bother to vote in DU polls, or DU is seriously out of synch with the mood of national Democrats across the country.

I don't know which is the correct answer.
