Sharpton working behind the scenes to oust Rangel
**WARNING: Please note that this article is from the NY Post**

Rev. Al Sharpton is working behind the scenes to oust Harlem's most famous and powerful elected official, Rep. Charles Rangel, The Post has learned.

Sharpton, furious at Rangel's support for retired Gen. Wesley Clark's ailing presidential campaign and convinced the 73-year-old lawmaker is past his prime, took time from his own quixotic bid for the Democratic presidential nomination a week ago to encourage Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV to enter the race.

"He told me he would back me if I run," said Powell, an East Harlem Democrat who's backing Sharpton for president.

"We had breakfast together, and he told me that he's with me and he's encouraging me to run."

I may disagree with Charlie Rangel on some issues, but if it is between him and someone Sharpton is supporting, I would choose Charlie in a heartbeat.

3. Sharpton is not bright.

If he thinks it's appropriate to dump one of the most powerful members of the house, he's wrong.

5. Believing the NY Post isn't very bright either
Rupert Murdoch owns the NY Post. Sharpton may not be the brightest, but I bet he doesn't trust the NY Post

7. They are about as accurate as the NY Times
They may be biased, but their fact checking is on par with other newspapers.

11. When it comes to inside NY politics
Fred Dicker is usually right. NY Post or not. His sources have been very reliable in the past.

4. Charlie Rangel is a great Dem
If Sharpton doesn't like him, HE should run for his seat and actually try to accomplish something in his life for once.

9. I want to repost what I said when this story was in LBN
Adam Clayton Powell IV

doesn't have one tenth the gravitas in his body that Rep. Rangel has in his pinky. That action has all the earmarks of trying to destroy the Democrat party. That from someone who wants the Democrat nomination for President? To list Rep. Rangel's accomplishments would make Sharpton's actions obvious.

I think we have had enough entertainment(?) from the Reverend and it's about time for him to vanish from the Presidential nominating stage and he can take DK and JL with him. We are not going to win this predential election with anyone from either extreme end of the Democrat Party.

And I would like to add that anyone considering Mr. Powell as an adequate replacement for Rep. Rangel, might want to look at young Mr. Powell's past accomplishments and deeds.

12. Rangel has been talking about retiring

That other NYC politicians would be trying to arrange who the successor will be is not exactly a shocking discovery. That there could be hostility against Charlie, or pressure on him to retire, hey, that's hardly news in New York either.

If Rangel decides to run again he'll win any primary and any general election. It's not as if Powell and Sharpton don't know that. So this "story" is very likely just salacious spin, probably actually a smear on the parties involved. After all, the NYP is a Republican mouthpiece and agitprop organ.
