question about Repugs fund raisers

just about every day of the wk. the repugs are fund raising somewhere in the country and the media reports x thousands, x millions of dollars taken in.

is this cash in hand or pledges?

if pledges, what percent actually gets sent in to the repugs?

does anyone check to see if the amount the media says was taken in was actually what was taken in?

1. Probably not pledges...
Having been involved in fundraisers in the past, I've never known one that was run on pledges. It's always checks (campaigns can't accept cash).

Also, not all donors will show up to a particulat event even though they donate.

3. Well, it's easily verifiable...
It all has to be reported and made public.

5. Ir had better be....
...or your campaign will be in trouble. The FEC is the primary authority, but the Justice Department can get involved in criminal matters.

But I'll tell you this: it would make zero sense for anyone to overreport what they're getting. You risk making donors complacent and less likely to contribute, and you can't report phantom donations to the FEC and not expect them to ask what's going on. If you publicly say you got $10M from a fundraiser when you really only got $5M, and you report that $5M...the FEC is going to come after you because you've stated a contrary figure publicly. Inflating your fundraising figures is asking for trouble, and makes no sense.
