Cheney Assails Democrats' `Competence' Against Terror (Update1)

March 24 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Democrats have a ``sorry record'' on national security and suggested the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq they have proposed would fulfill the hopes of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden.

``The leaders of the Democratic Party have decided to run on the theme of competence,'' Cheney said in Orlando at a fund- raising event for U.S. Representative Ric Keller, a Florida Republican. ``If they're competent to fight this war, then I ought to be singing on American Idol.''

Cheney was responding to statements by the Democratic National Committee, which has called the Bush administration and its Iraq war plan ``dangerously incompetent.'' U.S. Representative John Murtha, a Pennsylvania Democrat, and some other party lawmakers have called for the U.S. to begin a withdrawal from Iraq.

``Issues of national security will clearly be at the top of the agenda as the mid-term elections near,'' Cheney said, according to a transcript of the remarks his office distributed. ``The president and I welcome the debate.''

5. cheney wraps us up in an unending war that was started for no good reason
and has the gall to call somebody else's record "sorry"? It would be funny if so many lives hadn't already been wasted.

It's his lame-brained ideas that are the centerpiece of every fuck-up.

What an incompetent old fool.

Iraqis Sound Angry on Invasion Anniversary

Snip...

Salah Hashim, a 49-year-old businessman, said he yearned for the return of Saddam Hussein, the country's ousted dictator, given the violence that now envelops the country.

Snip...

"I got nothing from this so-called liberation, just this cell phone and my satellite receiver. But I lost my three daughters," said Nawar Maarof, a 34-year-old taxi driver who said he had dreamed of becoming an accountant. "I have a feeling that my destiny is the same. Anyway, we're all dead."

10. How about "American Idle"?
Okay, confession time: I was struck by the possibility of creating signs, stickers, and buttons with Cheney's mug and the words "AMERICAN ASSHOLE" in the appropriate logo. But perhaps American Idol would sue us if we tried that.

But surely someone will think of it.

Anyway, let's not kid ourselves. Cheney hasn't exactly been out doing MANLY stuff. Can anyone recall a recent occasion on which he took questions from a demanding crowd? It would appear that he only surfaces for softball interviews and party events. That's not exactly the life of a hard-working, intellectually sharp, earnest politician. Cheney's nothing but a coddled crab.

And I didn't even mention the five deferments!

11. Nothing screams incompetence like shooting your pal in the face, Dicky.
Or like multiple DUIs.

Or like flunking out of college.

Or like not convening the task force on terrorism you were appointed to head in May of 2001.

Or like being unable to act like a gentleman on the floor of the Senate.

And so on.

Play to your weaknesses

Posted 10:59 am | Printer Friendly

As election strategies go, most consultants suggest candidates and parties play to their strengths. The Bush gang seems ready to do the opposite.

Bush and Cheney separately went on the offensive yesterday against the Dems, delivering heated remarks that highlight the issues they've screwed up the most.

Snip...

That's right, Dick Cheney believes his critics aren't competent on Iraq.

Harry Reid's office issued a relatively thorough response.

"Under this administration's watch, Iraq has become a training ground and launching pad for international terrorism, North Korea has likely quadrupled its nuclear arsenal, (Osama) bin Laden remains on the loose, terror attacks across the world are on the rise, and Katrina exposed the staggering gaps in the administration's ability to protect America," said a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

I guess "Is Cheney nuts?" would have been a little too crass.
