Kevin Phillips - 06 Dems need to go for the jugular not capillaries
I apologize for a tight schedule and internet-denied Thursday that has kept me from posting, but one last thought. I believe that Democrats and liberals in 2006 stand to have their greatest opportunity since 1992 (which was lost). You will have the substantial support of many lapsed Republicans and doubters of Bush conservatism like myself. But I also have the sense that many Democrats and liberals have an instinct for for the capillaries, not for the jugular. If that leads to failure in 2006, there will be a major price to pay, not just for the United States but in terms of the credibility of your party and movement.

2. Mr. Philips Is Probably Correct, Ma'am
He has an excellent touch for the popular pulse. It is time ro go over to the attack, and do so with a determination to destry. People respond in elections to passion, not to reason....

"The whole art of war consists in a well-reasoned and extremely circumspect defensive, followed by audacious attack."

8. Mr Magistrate, Sir, I can only envy your way with words and phrasing .....
But I can also agree completely with your sentiment.

Our winner will be the one who, in debate with their guy, reaches across the podium, plunges his hand into his opponent's chest, yanks the still beating heart from it, and eats it, steaming, on live teevee.

a good place to start recruiting the next generation of Democratic soundbite-makers and talking point meisters.

Some folks around here can get blood-crazed zombies from outer space aggressive. We'll hit the ground running and leave goat tracks behind.

6. I heard Kevin talking about it the other night on Amy Goodman.

An Old School American radical populist. A highly-evolved, enraged innocent.

To hear Phillips talk about this country brings to mind Admiral Yamamoto's saying about "Beware of Waking the Sleeping Giants".

Thanks for the link.

5. I don't think we can though
The party aparatchik is too beltway conservative. Boxer and Dean and Feingold should be the leadership, but thy're not.

7. They are the leadership. Our leadership, as far as we have or want any
There are several barely-coexisting Democratic Parties. But, we're the most energetic, fastest growing, and in the end the inheritors of the Party's populist legacy.

11. This observation has merit in my experience-
among my activist group there is a woman who until 3 years ago was reg. unerolled/independent(grew up in a Repug family) and is she constantly telling the rest of us that we must "be nice" "don't stoop to their level" or"Oh that statement might go too far"

I told her once "I'll be nice after we win"

Her answer: "Oh but you'll turn people off if you're too partisan"

Then I said " You know what happens when you play middle of the road with this bunch? You turn into road kill"

14. Phillips said this in 2004
Once on Moyers' NOW, Phillips said that we would see if the Dems wanted a win in 04 if they went after the corruption of the bushes' including BCCI. I read once that the Rose Law Firm had some connection with BCCI which is why the investigation was canned. Maybe it came from Phillips; maybe the ban is still in effect. Anyway, there are two things to watch here 1) will the risk and controversy adverse DLC seize the message or 2) will we see a rise in the voice of those few elected progressives we have left.

As some here know, I support General Clark who has always taken them on...toe to toe, jugular to jugular, and he does it with a smile.

15. He's Right: "Violence" is the answer
How do Dems expect people to believe they can fight terrorism, if they can't even fight the bush neofascists?

We need to keep reminding them that it's put up or shut up time.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
