I fully expect Diebold to pull out all the stops and manufacture landslide victories for Republicans. Sadly, I expect to see the biggest winner to be Santorum

13. Right now I'd say moderate gains

But not enough to take control. It's actually a much bigger longshot to take control of either chamber than the media likes to portray, due to the horse race aspect that they love to promote. The senate playing field isn't in our favor and not enough House seats in play. If we somehow get our favorables way up I'll be much more optimistic. Relying on an anti-them vote won't work. If we believe otherwise and pretend it's a pat hand I'll be frustrated and furious.

14. The dems will be too busy gushing over possible '08 nominees

to focus on '06 and the real concern of election fraud. Without having fought for clean elections, none will happen, and many "shoo-ins" will lose.

15. Dems will make modest gains in the House

and that's is my most pessimistic assessment of the upcoming elections. Dems need to win 15 out of 24 vulnerable Republican seats in the House.

There is a lot of unhappiness in the country about the GOP, and even some Republicans have come to believe in the virtues of divided government.
