News Hounds Media Digest #75
3/20/06 to 3/26/06
("We watch Fox so you don't have to")
1. Melanie: Believing, as I do, that Fox News speaks for the Bush
administration, some of the off-the-cuff remarks made by their anchors
can at times be chilling.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/21/neil_cavuto_says_were_already_at_war_with_iran.php2. Chrish: The latest tactic used by the White House to avoid
responsibility for the fiasco in Iraq is to blame the liberal media
for under-reporting the good news. That paper tiger got blown away
when the media went all out reporting the release of three peace
activists the next day.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/23/blaming_the_media_for_bad_news_in_iraq_falls_apart.php#more3. Deborah: O'Reilly stands poised to rip apart anyone he thinks is
speaking against him. On 3/20/06 his victim was Jeff Bruce, Dayton
Daily News, for an editorial about Judge Connor in Ohio who O'Reilly
has decided should be removed from the bench.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/20/oreilly_the_watchdog_is_rabid.php#more4. Donna: This week on Fox News Live (Edition 12 - 1 p.m.) with Bill
Hemmer, he came to us live from Fallujah, Iraq. He was incorporating
his 'Happy Iraqi' stories with a speaking blitz by the President who
interrupted his stories three days in a row. Next time maybe they'll
be more coordinated.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/21/happy_iraqi_stories_continue_on_fox_news_live_but_one_marine_got_his_point_across.php5. Ellen: Echoing President Bush's sentiments, Sean Hannity and
several of the FOX News pundits blamed the mainstream media for not
reporting the good news in Iraq. But on Hannity & Colmes, it was a
case of "Do as we say, not as we do." There was not a single
discussion last week about good news coming out of Iraq.
http://www.newshounds.us/200/03/25/so_why_isnt_fox_covering_all_that_good_news_about_iraq.php6. Judy: Somebody blurted out the truth on Fox News' "Bulls and
Bears": the stock market has been flat, not soaring for, five years.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/25/truth_leaks_out_markets_been_flat.php#more7. Janie: Tuesday after White House Correspondent Helen Thomas
actually stood up for democracy and asked Bush a difficult question
(which he refused to answer) that both the press has been afraid to,
and that the American people have been demanding, Special Report
attempted to paint Thomas as anti-Bush, anti-Israel, and a lousy
journalist - for actually doing her job.
http://www.newshounds.us/2006/03/22/special_report_attacks_helen_thomas.php8. Marie Therese: As the GOP faces the possibility of a Democratic
version of the mid-term election of 1994, the forces of the right have
begun to resort to some of the nastier tricks of their trade. For
example, in a desperate attempt to justify the claim that the
mainstream media favors the left, Matt Drudge reprinted a private
blackberry message written in September 2004 and passed on to Drudge
by an anonymous coward. In the message an ABC producer makes
derogatory remarks about George Bush, clearly believing that he is
text messaging a friend. Some friend!
