1. I never took a Gore comeback seriously before....
And I still believe it is a huge long shot. But if concern over global warming becomes more intense, it is not out of the question that he be able to make a comback...

4. He can when you are preaching to the choir
but out in the real world, not so sure. We can use him, he is brilliant, but he is not gonna win a national election. Not everyone out there can see past their pre-programmed response. And there has been WAY too much pre-programming re Gore.

I love the guy, but we need to have someone who can actually win over the nation AND fight for the win. Gore has too many strikes against him for that.

I'd love him in a DEM cabinet though.

31. Global warming is but one of many reasons to draft Gore.
He really is the populist boy scout, with his finger directly on the pulse of the national mood. He is not following the curve. He is setting the pace of the curve, and I believe Al Gore is the only person with the credentials, the brains and the desire to create the badly need change in direction that this country yearns for.

6. Gore says he is not running. He needs to stop playing Hamlet!
Gore is the only one that can walk into the White House and start fixing the Bush mess from the outset. I wish he would change his ming, but barring evidence to the contrary, we must move forward.

10. He says he won't run from president...
But doesn't rule out any future political role. I say he's probably considering quite strongly about running for president in 08 already. Let's see if he gets the right kind of support he can go with.

18. But Gore can't "walk in" until Bush is out.
If I were Gore, and was thinking about running again.. I'd keep that notion very close to my chest until after a whole lot of ducks were in a row - and after the landscaping is finished.

He as others want to see the outcome of the mid term elections, will he have a republican Congress to deal with or a Democratic majority, even a weak majority one would be better than none.

In the meantime, he's going on around under the radar gathering support for an agenda that is critical to the future and the welfare of the entire globe...

But one small problem, Gore and any other progressive will have to go up against Exxon Corporation (among other Multi National Companies)- with the multi-billion dollar win fall profits in tax cuts etc, courtesy Bush Corporation, is going to fund the opposition against Gore, (and anyone else who poses a direct challenge to their hegemony over our energy policies etc) - Gore is going to need to build a huge war chest to beat them out in the next race, it's going to be even more expensive than ever.

The Senators in Congress pretty much took the teeth out of the lobbying reform bill passing through the Senate and guess who supports a toothless lobbying bill? That's right both Democrats and Republicans! Dodd, Reid, and others.. Whatever Gore decides to do, he'll need to keep it to his chest until after the mid terms.. at the earliest.

12. Well...for what it is worth
everyone on DU would vote for him in a heartbeat if he were nominated. He is adored by both sides of the aisle within the Democratic party.

I honestly cannot think of anyone else whom practically everyone on DU likes.

And he DESERVES to be President...it would be justice for both him and we who elected him in the first place.

13. There are a few good possible nominees, Gore being one of them
Kerry deserves to be President also so that argument doesn't sway me. I think Gore would make a fine President, which I would also say about at least two other possible candidates. And to be frank, I am less worried about unifying DU than I am about unifying most of the country around a good Democratic platform, President, and Congress. So I will weigh our top choices closer as Primary season approaches. Most folks around here know I have my own favorite. Right now I think Gore might be the strongest candidate on DU, but I don't believe he would be our strongest candidate in the General Election. But yes, for what it is worth, I would work my ass off for Gore if he wins the nomination. And for the record, I am NOT saying Gore couldn't win in 08. I don't think debating those points further helps anyone right now, so I won't comment on why I don't think Gore would be our strongest candidate. He would be fine with me. Plenty of time for more debate after the 2006 elections.

By examining the picture carefully, we see the Republican position of port security... The Democrat position as I just heard is, "If Hong Kong can inspect 100% of their cargo, then so can we."

21. to be perfectly honest
I just want to win. Period. That's more important to me by miles than who does the winning.

I have a strong allegiance to Gore. I'd prefer not to vote for anyone that voted yes on the IWR.
And the only reason I defend Hillary or any other Democrat (well, except maybe Lieberman :)) is because I want them to win.

Because regardless of all the complaints people have valid or otherwise against Democrats, they are infinitely better than any Republican.

And that is precisely where I stand.

24. hmmmm.
Peering into the minds of evil people ...

I think it depends on the midterms. If Dems win big, they are going to be afraid. They would probably be more likely at that point to roll the dice on McCain. Otherwise, Frist or Allen.

25. I truly believe
The Republican leadership, such as there is one, really thinks that it
has been granted some divinely inspired permanent lease on the White
House, which is why they invested so much time and money on hounding
Bill Clinton. They didn't view him so much as a political opponent as
a squatter in their living quarters at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Notice how Bill Clinton inspired such films as "The American President,"
and series like "The West Wing." What do you think Bush is going to inspire,
beyond research into the causes of non-bacterial nausea?

I think that if we win big in 2006, the Republicans will indeed flock to
McCain, as they will see him as their safest ticket to retain their permanent
lease on the White House. If we should have disappointing results in 2006,
their fanatical right wing will think they own the place, and put up Frist,
Allen, or some clone from the radical right. My fear is that with all the
exposed (and worse--not yet exposed) manipulation of electronic voting
machines, it won't matter what the voter want--it will only matter what the
programmers of the voting machines want, and there isn't ONE major manufacturer
of those devices that is Democrat-friendly.

Look for more surprising "upsets" this fall, where the Democrat was a shoo-in
according to the polls, and loses in a stunning upset victory by a clearly inferior
Republican opponent, who will the be thanking the voters who decided to place their
trust in him/her blah blah. The script is already written.

28. It's gotta be Gore !!
Would people PLEASE stop telling lies about Gore. He has not said that he will never run again. What he has said is the same thing that most potential candidates have said, which is - when asked "I am not planning to be a candidate". But a person's plans can change from one day to the next. Like on Friday, I am planning to go to work. But on Saturday, I am planning to go to the store.

So OK, right now Gore is not planning to be a candidate (assuming he is telling the truth), but maybe by this time next year his plans will have changed? It all depends on a lot of things like: the results of upcoming elections in November, who else is seeking the Democratic nomination, how many people have pledged to work for Gore, whether he has a chance of raising enough money - just to mention a few of the factors that he will have to take into account. But he doesn't have to make a decision this year. And he DEFINITELY does not have to declare his intentions before the mid-term elections in November (in fact - to do so would be kinda stupid - and that is one thing Al Gore aint.)

If you want to learn more about what Al Gore is doing these days, then I recommend you go and sign-up at this website which was set up by grassroots Gore supporters: www.algore.org

If you really want to help Gore - then please spread the word about this website!

Please note: I have no connection with the site (other than being in full agreement)

32. Well said Apollo!
and I totally agree. Al Gore is as much in the running as anybody else with the possible exception of Joe Biden, because I believe he actually announced. I also believe the MSM trashed Al because he empowered us, and because they are intimidated by intelligence, so they continue to B.S. the nation as to Al's intentions. The MSM feels smarter if the President is stupid, personally it scares the hell out of me when I am much smarter than the President.

I believe we have reached a historic crossroads in our nation and the planet's history. We are fast approaching the tipping point regarding planetary resources with over 6 billion people, all trying to get a piece of an ever shrinking pie. We need revolutionary thinking on how we relate to the earth and Al Gore as in so many other issues, is the leader by light years in that regard.

30. He won once before,
who's to say he wouldn't do it again? There certainly seems to be a rumbling of support for Gore that continues to grow louder each week. I for one would do whatever it takes to spread the good word of Gore. Geez, sounds like I'm a missionary.

Two years is plenty of time for him to create a firestorm of support. Now is the time for someone just as angry as we are to swoop in and tell us exactly what we want to here. And he seems to do that for most of us.
