Justice Scalia's obscene gesture
Do you find this conduct becoming a Supreme Court justice (hat tip AMERICAblog)?
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia startled reporters in Boston just minutes after attending a mass, by flipping a middle finger to his critics.

A Boston Herald reporter asked the 70-year-old conservative Roman Catholic if he faces much questioning over impartiality when it comes to issues separating church and state.

"You know what I say to those people?" Scalia replied, making the obscene gesture and explaining "That's Sicilian."

The 20-year veteran of the high court was caught making the gesture by a photographer with The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston's newspaper.

"Don't publish that," Scalia told the photographer, the Herald said.
Between this story and reports of his stance on Guantanamo Bay, Antonin Scalia is having a bad couple of days. So, too, is American democracy.

4. I wonder if the Italian-Americans who go after protrayals of Italians,
like Tony Soprano, are willing to go after Scalia for that comment?
Not exactly painting the Italians with a clean brush, eh?

10. Good point.
And we have that dog and cat pic you use on a wall in a bathroom. My SO put it there and it was months before I noticed it. Always brings a smile.

15. Clean Brush
As a Sicilian, I'd like to break both middle fingers off his fat little catholic attorney hands, stuff then up his widening SC bench arse with a used wire chimney brush until he can lick them clean.....

'Nuf said?

does a childish, silly gesture. It scares me to think of what has happened to all branches of our government.

16. not sure that it was an obscene gesture
Other descriptions made it sound like he gave what might be called the Italian "chin flick". I checked with a buddy who is as well-versed in Italian culture as anyone (his parents were born in Italy and ran an Italian bakery in New Jersey; he still speaks Italian to his neighbors when he visits the old neighborhood. And he's a Democrat with no love for Scalia. He said that in the US, the chin flick gesture basically means "get lost; don't bother me". Somewhat insulting and rude, but not obscene. Sort of like the difference between "buzz off" and "fuck you".

I'd have to see a picture of what he did to be sure.

20. Apparently the man's too old and set in his ways
This is why I don't agree with the appointment of Supreme Court Justices for their lifetime. It's in the constitution, isn't it? Well there needs to be an amendment. What is their incentive to do what's right when they don't have to worry about not winning an election EVER? Most of us retire before we're 70 years old, and they should too. :freak: :nopity: x(

21. He should be impeached
for his continued refusal to recuse himself when he has behaved or said something inappropriate. He is a disgrace to the Supremes, a low class one it appears.

22. It is conduct VERY becoming of ...a Totalitarian Thug
...a Bushevik Assclown.

...a serial liar.

...a criminal masquerading as a judge.

...a Nazi "Judge".

...a Soviet "Judge".

...a Bushevik "Judge".

In short, Fat Tony's conduct is very fitting and appropriate for a "man" like him and for all who are like him.

23. My dad's Italian, relatives are Sicilian
Sicily is Mafia central.

If he does everything the "Sicilian way," it makes absolute sense to me. Corrupt, bloated, violent, no regard for rule of law, and intimidating.

If he was a Mafia kingpin, these would be stellar traits. In a Supreme Court Justice, they are criminal ones.

So do we call him Antonin "The Finger" Scalia now?

Or is it still Antonin "Orgy Man" Scalia?

24. Well let's see...
if Scalia did what is alleged, than it is wholly inappropriate, unprofessional, and clearly shows a lack of common sense and wisdom. However, we already knew that about the man.

Now where could he have possibly gotten the impression, that junior high locker room antics are appropriate behavior for a high government official to engage in?.......
