WASHINGTON -- The Republican senator who upset the White House last year by opposing
President Bush's choice for U.N. ambassador now says John Bolton is "a changed man"
whom he might support should Bush try to renew the appointment.
Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, said Tuesday he has been watching Bolton closely
since he became ambassador on Aug. 1. Bush temporarily installed Bolton while Congress was
in recess after Voinovich joined most Democrats in blocking a Senate vote on the nomination
last May.
At the time, Voinovich called him a bully who would make critical U.N. reforms harder to achieve.

Bolton's appointment expires next January. If Bush reappoints him, Voinovich said
he "might not take the same position as last time."

John Bolton is still a bully and his intransigence threatens to derail reform efforts, not help them.
