Sherrod Brown is one of our best hopes - and Karl Rove's worst nightmare. And, with a critical March 31 deadline approaching, he needs our immediate help so that he can replace Senator Mike DeWine, a full-fledged Bush apologist.

As you can imagine, the GOP political establishment will pull out all the stops to protect Mike DeWine's Senate seat. They'll pour millions of dollars into the state. So will right-wing groups who are deeply grateful for DeWine's record of serving as a rubber stamp for Bush and the Republican leaders in Congress. DeWine has voted in lock-step with the Bush administration on Iraq, Medicare, and the energy bill, to name a few.

We need to help Sherrod Brown even the odds by rushing grassroots donations to his campaign before a critical midnight deadline this Friday. Act now because we need Sherrod Brown's leadership in the Senate on prescription drugs, health care, and other critical issues.

As a Congressman, he was the chief Democratic sponsor of the bipartisan Children's Health Act of 2000, which expanded research on autism, birth defects, and other child-related diseases. A respected voice in Congress on U.S. trade policy, Sherrod led the bipartisan opposition to last summer's flawed Central American Free Trade Agreement.

If he can count on our immediate help, Sherrod Brown can make Ohio the site of one of our Party's most critical triumphs in 2006 and send a breath of fresh air to Washington by helping us toward our goal of taking back the Senate. I can tell you this: I am eagerly looking forward to the day when Sherrod Brown and I serve side-by-side in the Senate.

Let me tell you about two other exciting candidates who can join him as new Democratic Senators.

In Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar is working hard - and with great success - to frustrate Karl Rove's dream of turning Minnesota red. Bush, Frist, and a whole parade of GOP figures have come to Minnesota to shore up the campaign of Amy's opponent, a Bush rubber stamp who votes with the President 97% of the time. As Hennepin County prosecutor, Amy has been a strong advocate for women, doubling the number of domestic abuse cases prosecuted in the County. I need Amy with me in the Senate to fight for health care reform, energy independence, tax fairness and economic and international security.

Another leader we need in the Senate is Harold Ford Jr., running in Tennessee. Harold has never been afraid to take tough stands and hold our leaders accountable for policies he believes are failing the American people. He represents a new generation of leadership dedicated to breaking the stranglehold of Middle East oil, making health care more affordable, and building genuine national security at home and in the world. If you have ever wanted to send a message to Bill Frist that you are tired of his failed leadership in Washington and his refusal to stand up to President Bush, there is no better way to do that than by electing a great new Democrat to take Frist's place in the U.S. Senate.

All three of these Senate candidates are running great campaigns, making Rove and the Republicans very nervous, but they need us to help them press forward to victory.

I would assume they report their donations every quarter or so.

IIRC, candidates try to raise as much as possible before each deadline to give a good showing for fundraising when the reports come out. It helps generate more donations if you had a good quarter and also intimidates the opposition.

5. In Minnesota, FORD BELL, the progressive Dem, is also

working hard, and will be until our primary in September.

Bell actually takes positions on the war, health care, poverty and all that other "stuff" that Democrats are really concerned about. http://www.fordbell.com/

He has lots of support, and was most recently endorsed by the DFL Women's Political Alliance.

It's great when DC leaders support state races but not when they disqualify/ignore the progressive candidates before the primary like this.:(

6. It doesn't bother me

These politicians are people too, and they have preferences. What's more, these are their potential collegues we're talking about here, so it's a bit like a hiring comittee. IMHO, sitting politicians can endorse whoever they want, and we're free to take that at face value. People only have the influence we're willing to grant them. If Senator Jones endorses candidate Smith, that's their business. If that has an impact on my opinion, that's my business.

I'm getting a sense that they don't want their candidates battle scarred before they ever face the Republicans, coffers empty because they just duked it out with a fellow Dem.

Ford Bell Surges Past Mark Kennedy in Poll
MINNEAPOLIS (February 28, 2006) —Ford Bell leads Mark Kennedy 43-40 in the February 28 Rasmussen poll, a 7-point jump from a January poll. The three-point margin over the Republican is identical to that of Amy Klobuchar.

"I'm gratified, but not surprised," said Bell. "Minnesotans are hearing and embracing our clear message for change, and Democrats in particular are realizing that we must have a clear message to beat Mark Kennedy in November."

The Rasmussen poll shows Bell leading Kennedy despite a gap in name recognition. The difference between Bell and Kennedy has swung eight points since the last Rasmussen poll, and 13 points in two months. "We know that when people hear Ford, they support him," said David Lilly, Bell's campaign manager. "And now people are hearing him."

Bell has called for U.S. troops to be out of Iraq by the end of this year, and for a universal single-payer health care system.

He's been to all corners of the state, working hard while also still fighting R's in Congress.

Polls show his support growing in Ohio as Mike DeWine's support falters, but the GOP is pumping millions into this race, we all need to help, too.
