A fence is the dumbest idea put forth.
How is a fence going to stop illegal immigration? It won't.
These folks have nothing to lose. They create tunnels--long ass tunnels.
The will jump out of airplanes.
A fence will just waste more money that this country doesn't have.
And who will guard the fence.
Do they not make wire cutters in Mexico? Explosives. Shovels. Bulldozers to knock the fence down.
A bucket truck to place folks over the fence.

It is almost like spy v spy.

Please explain to me how I'm wrong if I am.

3. Of course it is..
... and it's coming from dumb people, what would you expect.

The reason there are so many illegals here is that there is no consequence for employing them and no consequence for them being here.

There is no consequence because even though the Republicans love to act like they worry about this issue, they don't - they are the cheap labor party.

Nothing real is going to happen, other than possibly just handing out 'guest-worker' status like popcorn.

people will throw themselves on barb wire than live in hell...

It's a bad idea...

6. We're not just talking about any old fence.
We're talking about German ingenuity coupled with Asian architecture.

Perhaps we can just buy the Great Wall brick by brick.

10. Now there is an idea
They've already built our railroads and own our ports on the west coast. They know all about our borders and our cross country terrain.

7. The fence is one small component of a complete system.
It would only be useful in urban areas, and the intent is to slow the person down, long enough for Border Patrol to respond, after seeing them on camera or detecting their movements.

BTW, have you seen the fence in Nogales, AZ? Hundreds of patches are welded on where people have torched through.

Look up SBInet, which is the new DHS program to really fix all this crap. Tons of sensors, cameras, networkds, people, the whole 9 yards.

13. Built by Haliburton and subcontracted by FEMA???
If that is the case, it won't be built within 15 years. Sounds like a great project for the new nominee that Kerry blocked--the administrator of the BIG DIG. I'm sure he can get the project moving.

17. If it's only a fence, it won't stop illegal border crossings.
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 08:53 PM by Inland
The problem now is that once someone gets five miles past the border, there's absolutely no effort to find him, by design. It's largely a charade. A fence, alone, is only marginally better...in a sense, a more dramatic charade so that people can see soemthing that looks tougher than it is. That's why people talk about reasonable, just and appropriate immigration laws that are enforced by punishing employers for hiring illegals.

20. Yes, kind of like the Transporation Security Authority when they
confiscate your nail clippers. It just makes me feel so much safer that the guy next to me is not going to start clipping his fingernails.

No thanks. I'll take my chances with the current ineffective system.

19. Once the remaining jobs are shipped
South of the border (or North of the Border :D, or to India/Asia) it will help keep Americans in. I wonder if Halliburton will hire illegals to build it?
