Democrats Contemplate Hiring Headhunter to Help GOP Senators Find New Jobs

Snip...

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said this week that his high-profile job is a “terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible” post to hold while seeking the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. Frist said he looked forward to being “unencumbered by having responsibilities of leading this body.” (It sounds like a lot of Republicans would also like to see Frist “unencumbered” as well.)

Snip...

During the Roberts confirmation hearings in September, Sen. Tom Coburn was apparently so bored that he was photographed doing a crossword puzzle. Sen. Orrin Hatch provided a window into his views of the job during the Roberts confirmation hearings as well. He was spotted playing with his camera phone during the Roberts confirmation hearings, prompting one newspaper to write, “apparently the senior senator from Utah has become really bored.”

In 2003, Sen. Sam Brownback was caught signing autographed headshots of himself during a congressional hearing at which Paul Bremer was testifying on the situation in Iraq and the Administration’s request for $87 billion to help rebuild Iraq. (See above photos.)

While Coburn and Hatch bore easily, other Senators are frustrated with not getting their way. In October, Sen. Ted Stevens threatened to quit the Senate if he didn’t get funds for Alaska’s so-called “Bridge to Nowhere.” And after the Senate rejected a proposal to drill in ANWR in the final days of the 2005 legislative session, Stevens said, “I say goodbye to the Senate tonight.”
