11. W himself might be the made-to-order wedge issue of '06 -- if ..
.. our side is willing to use it.

"Makin sure the voters can see lots of daylight between me and Mr. Disaster" looks like part of a winning strategy to me, because it puts the Publicans in a nice double-bind.

Public noise for impeachment may help get the message to our candidates, who have lost in recent years because voters don't see enough difference between them and the wingnuts ...

15. I alternate between execution, and wanting them to spend YEARS in
a single cell, with one toilet, and no privacy, and at odd times throught each and every day, seeing the pictures and hearing the screams of the dying and wounded.

7. Amen. A law that affects all of us, if
we only had a brain.

That effects and affects thing, I can't get the hang of it.

Or "We couldn't do worse", "For the sake of the nation" or "For the safety of the American people".

18. The bottom line HAS TO BE 'he broke the law' and he is not above
the law.
From that it could escalate but without it, it's not going to happen imho.

IF THE TRUTH CAME OUT 90% of the country would want him impeached. It would be a win-win for everybody.

21. If the truth came out about Bush...
On any of dozens of things, maybe hundreds, a clear majority of voters would approve of impeachment.

But the truth won't come out until Democrats run the House.

Even then, it'll be a tough sell because of the media. We'll hear 24/7 Republican whiners that it's all about partisanship and revenge for Clinton. A lot of people who haven't been paying close attention will take a lot of convincing. They may not approve of Bush's job performance, but it's a big step for them to believe he is culpable of "high crimes and misdemeanors."

"Fortunately" Bush has given us an awful lot of ammunition. But there will be no shortcuts. It'll take a long, methodical process to lay it all out before the people so that there is no long-term backlash.

even during the 2000 election, I kept thinking "IF this chucklefuck is elected (that he might outright steal the election hadn't occurred to me), we should impeach him just on general, karmic, turnabout-is-fair-play grounds". Of course, now he's really EARNED it. It wouldn't matter what side of the political spectrum he was on, or me for that matter- based upon his performance, he clearly deserves to be impeached IMHO.

25. He broke it. He's breaking it. And he'll keep lying and breaking the law
and screwing us over until he's stopped.

That terrifies me.

One of the choices IS essentially that we have to impeach him to stop him ...

20. How about...
HE BROKE THE LAW?

I know it's not a lie about a b.j., but real, honest-to-gawd laws he broke. If they can punish Clinton for what he "lied about", then they can certainly punish this entire government -- Bush first! -- for all the laws they've broken and the lies they've told.

Just my opinion.

23. i guess this poll was intended as satire..
 none of the real issues were listed to choose from..

but then maybe that would have been stating the obvious, and i should have got it that this was meant as satire...

24. Not satire at all. There's plenty of noise that pushing for impeachment ..
.. is unrealistic, or helps Rs, or is pointless since the Ds don't control Congress etc etc etc.

I wanted to raise a different cluster of issues: could a popular movement pushing for impeachment help us reach the 50% of Americans who don't vote? could it be used to spark discussions with uninformed people that could help educate them about what's been going one while they snoozed? could it motivate informed people who haven't yet found any way to focus their energies? could it send a message to Congressional Ds to stop playing lickey-face with our political enemies? could it help shift the political center in America? could it be a good starting point for us to get together, have fun, and organize for the things we believe in? could it be a critical move in the on-going fight to keep the rightwingers from further militarizing our economy and taking away our basic freedoms?

It's my view, not only that Bush deserves impeachment, but that Americans need the impeachment of Bush ...

26. Because we owe it to ourselves and the world......
to get this man out of power. Powerless as we sometimes feel, we are the ONLY people on this planet who can get rid of a US President, and cause Americans to once again be viewed as citizens of the world. And we need to send a message to future generations of Americans that Bush's behavior is not acceptable in a President, and will be stopped.

This is a no-brain-er. Impeaching Bush is not going to somehow help the GOP by some convoluted logic. It's not necessary to over-think ourselves into helplessness. I believe that is what the Democratic Party is doing right now, and why they seem so unable to create an effective counter-force to the insanity of the last five years.

Stand up for what's right, and take the obvious action.
