House passes bill to allow breast feeding in public

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Alabama House approved a bill Wednesday that would allow mothers to breastfeed babies in restaurants and other public places.

The House voted 84-10 for the bill that would allow a woman to breast feed "in any location where she is authorized to be."

Rep. DuWayne Bridges, R-Valley, expressed concern about women breastfeeding in open in the restaurant and truck stop he owns on Interstate 85 near the Alabama-Georgia line.

"I think it would be good for them to go to their automobile or to the restroom," Bridges said.

Seriously though, the US is so effed up sexually that it is not funny! I once had a supermarket cashier tell me that at least with twins I didn't have to worry about deciding whether or not to breastfeed. I gave her a puzzled look and asked what she meant and when she hesitated I told her that I did breastfeed them. She then got a look of disgust on her face and said that she could never do it 'cause it was too sexual. All I could do was shake my head, and say "Geez, ya know, I hate to tell you but that's not their primary biological function." I just couldn't believe it! She must have been about 15 years younger than me and sounded like she grew up in the 1940s.

I breastfed both my babies whenever AND wherever they got hungry. I fed my daughter once, sitting in the middle of Honolulu International. Not a single person knew what I was doing except one older woman who stopped in front of me and said 'it is so nice to see someone breastfeeding a baby again.' She had done it w/ her kids so she knew.

Now that I am older, I occasionally see a woman w/ her shirt pulled up and her baby tucked in tight, being fed. I think back to that woman in Hawaii and think 'yea, it is nice'.
