WSJ Battleground States Poll Update March 30, 2006 - Senate and Governors

The latest WSJ Battleground States Poll predicts a 2006 election outcome in the Senate of 53 Republican, 46 Democrat/Independent, and 1 race too close to call. That's a gain of 1 Democratic Senate seat since the poll was last updated in mid-January. Since then Minnesota move from too clost to call to the Democrat column, and New Jersey moved from the Republican column to the too close to call category.

Way to go, Minnesota and New Jersey!

We need to end up with a total of 51 Democrat/Independent seats in the Senate. If it's a tie we lose because Darth Cheney's tie vote would give Republicans continuing control of the Senate. We've made progress but we still need to pick up 4 more seats. Things are trending our way, and I have high hopes we will prevail.

The Gubernatorial races haven't been getting as much attention as the ones in the Senate, but they look promising. Today there are 28 Republicans and 22 Democrats, but this poll currently predicts an outcome of 22 Republicans and 26 Democrats, with 2 races too close to call. That's a pickup of 4 Governors.

That's a couple of headlines from just today. There is a steady stream of revealations that continurs to expose the Culture of Corruption, and this is helping to ensure the trend will continue in our favor.

2. Other good news, is that the state's going R. margins aren't that great!

With the exception of Texas, I don't see too many unreversible margins.

I feel better about the House of Representatives than the Senate for a take-over, but as you indicate, there's reason to be hopeful.

Some hard work for blue candidates is just the thing between now and November.

5. Glad you liked it, Old Crusoe

Regaining control of at least one house of Congress this year is my fondest hope. Everything else is secondary to that. I am always looking for new polls like this one by WSJ, hoping that I will see there is movement in that direction.

I think you're right about the House of Representatives. I have not yet found a poll similar to the one I just shared, which covers those races. I'm thinking that's because there are fewer Senate and Gubernatorial races, so it's easier to put together a poll about them. I hope we see something like that as we get closer to November. If not, I'll whip out the old spreadsheet and compile one.

look for Senator Byrd in your state?

I know he's up there in years, but he strikes me as being way, way up there in dignity also, and I hope that's enough to return him to the U.S. Senate. Is his seat safe?

I like them because they do a good job of keeping information up to date. To me it seems that their results are usually biased in favor of Republicans by about 4%. But that's OK, I just take that into account.

Our state is in mourning on account of the loss of Erma Byrd, Senator Byrd's wife of 68 years.

We share the Byrd family's grief. All state flags will be displayed at half-staff tomorrow, when she is laid to rest at Arlington. We hope the Soul of the Senate will be able to soon recover from this loss.

We're always up for a good political glimpse at things.

And I am relieved to hear your assessment of Byrd's chances for re-election. He gave Bush holy hell over Iraq, and rightly so, and properly so, and I will never forget him for that.
