Hey--Is It Happening in Britain, Too?
Royal aide: No 10 risks turning into dictatorship
Jon Ungoed-Thomas and Christopher Morgan
The Sunday Times April 02, 2006

A SENIOR officer of the royal household has warned that Tony Blair is in danger of becoming an “elected dictator” as the prime minister launches a fresh constitutional assault on the House of Lords.

<snip>

Erroll said last week that Blair was systematically removing constitutional controls on central government. “There has been a dismantling of checks and balances over the past few years and the Lords has become the last bastion of those,” he said.

He said Blair had already made one earlier attempt to upgrade his own constitutional powers with his proposals to abolish the position of lord chancellor.

“By getting rid of that position, the prime minister has elevated himself to be the second person under the Queen and is in effect an elected dictator. It’s a very dangerous position,” he said.

Is Tony Bliar taking lessons from BFEE? Or did he just get a bit of inspiration from the other guys on his block?

perhaps that storyline isn't too far off. After the U.S. collapses, Britain will become a paranoid fascist state.

7. Maybe these are different Brits.
Maybe we are different Americans. Maybe that's why we are lying down and letting the BFEE steamroll over us and our checks and balances.

8. Well you know what they say.....
...."monkey see, monkey do". Blair was right there with Clinton, and rightfully so, in the 90's, but stayed right down the "stupid path" with the Village Idiot!

You can see almost exact parallels between the authoritarian measures being developed both here & in Britain. I don't know if they're working in concert, or if they're both just working off of the how-to-be-a-dictator playbook.

11. UK has been in the grip of a Blairite dictatorship since '97
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 08:24 AM by TheBaldyMan
never liked him, never trusted him and we here in the UK are much poorer as a nation as a result. After successive conservative governments form '79 to '97 we have had another bunch of Thatcherites but this time with a majority of a size that Thatcher could only dream about.

We are waking up from the nightmare but we don't have a Kerry or Gore to replace him.

12. The dividing up of Britains military R&D into two halves......
.....one being corporate controlled(civilian), the other with Govt oversite is the only indication that you need to presume Britains drift toward "corporatism".......of course the Bush tentacles (carlyle) smell deaths potential and will be there for the profit.....
