DNC keeping tally of NOLA absentee ballot requests, ads, toll free numbers
This was posted in another forum by someone from New Orleans, but this article has a lot more information. I like the radio ads and the toll free numbers being provided by the DNC, and I am impressed that Donna Brazile is staying right on it.

DNC seeking to help voters in New Orleans

Mar. 31--The national Democratic Party is moving to mobilize voters in the nonpartisan New Orleans mayor's race, which takes place April 22.

The Democratic National Committee will advertise its toll-free help line, 1-888-DEMVOTE, through advertisements on radio stations catering to African-Americans in the major evacuee centers of Houston, Baton Rouge, La., and Atlanta.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean said Thursday in a conference call with reporters that Democrats will focus their advertising dollars on those radio stations because the overwhelming majority of those who fled the damage from Hurricane Katrina are black.

Democratic consultant Donna Brazile, a New Orleans native and chairwoman of the DNC's Voting Rights Institute, said she has been using her own displaced family members as a kind of unofficial measure of the Louisiana secretary of state's distribution of absentee ballots.
As of Tuesday, she said, five of the 10 family members had received the absentee ballots they requested.

I have seen some posts saying this is not an issue. But it is. These people are still recovering from emotional and physical shock, terrible losses, and it is hard to figure out what to do. Those toll-free numbers should be very helpful. And Donna has a vested interest in this since her sister was missing for a while in Katrina.

I am proud of the Democrats for doing this.

1. I am also proud of Dems for keeping Katrina in the forefront.
And this is a big ass issue and will be for a long time.

2. We had 3 hurricane eyes over us in 04, nearly had one last year...
it was nasty here even though the hurricane was miles away. 50 to 60 miles gusts, heavy rain.

Hurricane season is on the way, and I think of those in New Orleans. I have neighbors who just got their roofs fixed from 04.

3. I hear you totally, madfloridian. I think this
year will effect you, us, or my dad and his honey in NY. Who knows where the big storm(s) will hit?
We've been preparing, buying wood for the windows, plylocks, batteries, whatever it takes to get through one.
I'm afraid for everyone on or near the coast, west or east.
