Time to Impeach?
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 11:00 AM by erpowers
It might be time to impeach Bush. General Zinni was on Meet the Press this morning. He talked about how there was corruption, neglience, or maybe some things worse in the pre-Iraq invasion period. I think he called for the impeachment of Bush withoug saying the words. He called for Rumsfeld to resign and for anyone else who overrode the conclusions of the intelligence officials to resign. In addition, he criticized Secretary Rice's statement that their had been tactical mistakes in Iraq by saying that there had actually been policy mistakes and not tactical mistakes in the Iraq War.

I know he is not actually a Democrat, but I would pretty much like for him to run for President. Also, I do not support his running for President just because he is saying things that are negative about Bush. I support him running because he seems to have knowledge of what it takes to win in Iraq and fix the situation. In addition, he seems to be very knowledgable about the Iraq and the world and what it would take to bring about real democracy to Iraq and around the world. My first choice for President is Feingold; however, if Feingold cannot get the nod I would like Zinni to run or if Feingold does get the nod to be the Vice President of Feingold.

1. Stop using the word "President" when talking about 2008
The new word is "Unitary Executive."

3. It is past time to impeach. The evidence seems to be overwhelming
at this point. We have more evidence against Bush than we did against Nixon, and the alleged crimes Bush has committed far exceed the severity of the Nixon Watergate crimes.

At this point, I really believe the lack of movement in impeachment is proof to the American people that the American system of justice is dead. I also believe it's proof that the members of Congress are participating in the crimes of the Bush Administration. Be they Republican or Democratic, very few are taking serious steps to do anything.

As an American citizen, I'm dismayed that calls for action from the people to our elected representatives largely fall on deaf ears.

Which leads me to believe that it's time to clean house. Completely. Out with the career politicians who are doing nothing. Set term limits for EVERYONE. Give them a specific period of time to do what they feel needs to be done, and then get on with their lives in the private sector. No more lobbying. No more private campaign donations. No more free meals. No more free trips. If the purpose of the meeting or the trip is that important to the American people, then we should pick up the tab for it, not a corporation.

No more using public owned airplanes for party fund raising. Let the party pick up the tab for that. The American people should not be paying for fund raising.

Congress should not be able to vote themselves raises. That should be done on the state level, by a vote of the people.

The system as it is now is ripe for abuse, and is a huge waste of taxpayer money. It may take a revolution to make changes, but changes must be made in order to further the American way of life. As it is now, we're heading straight for a dead end.

Our elected officials should be ashamed of themselves.

10. You don't need term limits
you want to end campaign fund raising, SIMPLE... all eelctions, from dog catcher on up will be publicly funded

Electioneiring will be limited to 60 days before the election

All candidates will have EQUAL access to the airwaves.

11. We need term limits
We don't need career politicians who get elected, then get comfy with their positions, and feel they don't need to answer to the people any longer. Politicians seem to forget why they wanted to run in the first place. It's the whole political culture.

We need people to run for office because they have a passion for their country, and a desire to do what's right for America. After years in their offices, this passion and desire seems to fade. They lose sight of their purpose. Given a limited amount of time to make an impact, they will remain true to their values, and the passion and desire won't fade.

Term limits will also prevent what I call the "fossil syndrome," where you have elderly representatives who no longer represent the main stream. I won't mention any names, but several in recent history almost looked as if they'd already died, and nobody noticed.

Give them a specific amount of time to do their job, hold them to their campaign promises, and then return to the private sector. Career politicians are not helping us, they're making the problem worse.

Ending campaign fund raising is fine, but that won't go far enough.

4. LONG past time, but....
The gutless wonders in this party in the Senate won't even stand up to censure him. If we can't even do that, you can forget about chimpeachment.

5. Impeachment is a very serious remedy
I wouldn't want to say anybody is advocating impeachment unless he actually uses the word.

Moreover, as your summary of General Zinni's remarks indicate, the problem is worse than one that can be simply fixed by removing Bush from office. Dismissing for a moment the idea of war crimes and crimes against humanity, for which there is an open and shut case against Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld and Gonzales, Mr. Cheney is still the focus of active corruption in this regime. He must be removed along with Bush or we will have accomplished nothing. It is Cheney, more than Bush, who has used his office to enrich a concern of which he was once CEO by fixing them up with no-bid contracts from which Halliburton has profited nicely while overcharging the US taxpayer to boot. These services were performed for reconstruction following a war waged on an extremely dubious pretext for which all of Cheney's alarming pre-war pronouncements have been shown to be bunk.

It is not impeachment we want. We demand a regime change. It is necessary.

As for the prospect of General Zinni, a Republican, running for president, I'm open to the idea. I think the GOP will have to work hard in the next decade to overcome the yuppie fascist image that it has earned in the Bush years and the era of talk radio and Coulteresque propaganda and return to its sober conservative roots.

7. new here, but...
I';ve said this many times to people around me and they have simply nodded their heads.. If Clinton got impeached for a blowjob, how come Bush hasn't been impeached for lying to his country twice and leading a massacre?

Sorry my first post is a bit on the blunt side but this is an open forum i believe where we can decipher whats what.

peace.

9. thank you
I have been reading "breaking news" on freerepublic forever it seems but their twisted way of somehow making this administration seemingly legitimate is totally untolerable.

I hope the best for America, I wish bush would be impeached immediately, Hillary brought into office, that would be for starters. I don't want to spread myself too thin here but it seems he has also spread himself too thin. There is no end for war in his sight, the puppet government has collpased a long time ago. The poor troops are morally defeated, the deficit has never been higher, what can I say. What else can go wrong??

but glad to be here DU'ers.

13. Hillary willingly jumped into the Bush Iraq cesspool
with wanton abandon. She has not renounced her vote or said she was sorry for entrusting America's reputation and military might to bush.

Be that as it may, welcome to DU! :hi:
