Rice:"Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them"
somebody help me figure this out. she admits to THOUSANDS of errors, but still believes they are doing the right thing. Is something wrong with me, or is this just plain fucked-up?

Rice admits "thousands" of errors in Iraq
Fri Mar 31, 2006 3:47 PM GMT

By Gideon Long and Sue Pleming

BLACKBURN (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accepted on Friday the United States had probably made thousands of errors in Iraq but defended the overall strategy of removing Saddam Hussein.

Local Muslims and anti-war activists told Rice to "Go Home" when counterpart Jack Straw earlier led her on a tour of his home town of Blackburn in the industrial northwest, an area which rarely plays host to overseas politicians.

"Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them," she said in answer to a question over whether lessons had been learnt since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

"I believe strongly that it was the right strategic decision, that Saddam had been a threat to the international community long enough," she added.

1. 2,330 of them, to be precise.
Not to mention another 30,000 or so that they aren't counting at all.

3. Yes, but she didn't mean it LITERALLY
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/4/1/112612/6145

"I didn't mean it literally" is apparently the new Bush administration code phrase for "I was making shit up for PR purposes, now get off my back."

From CNN this morning:

BLACKBURN, England (CNN) -- One day after Condoleezza Rice said the United States made possibly "thousands" of tactical mistakes in the war against Iraq, the secretary of state says she was speaking "figuratively, not literally."

From January, a report after Mr. Bush's State of the Union address:

WASHINGTON - One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.

9. Well, then Clinton's indiscretion with Monica was just a figurative BJ,
not a literal one.

4. Today she said she didn't mean it literally.
Is there any member of *Co that can say anything unscripted with having to attach a "signing statement," the next day, which give their take on their own words.

15. He summed it up pretty well and saw this thing from the beginning
but they wouldn't listen to advisors like he and others.

Gen. Zinni: 'They've Screwed Up'

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/21/60minutes/main618896.shtml

Now, in a new book about his career, co-written with Tom Clancy, called "Battle Ready," Zinni has handed up a scathing indictment of the Pentagon and its conduct of the war in Iraq.

In the book, Zinni writes: "In the lead up to the Iraq war and its later conduct, I saw at a minimum, true dereliction, negligence and irresponsibility, at worse, lying, incompetence and corruption."
