1. Other
I suspect he is seriously mentally ill. Also, I suspect that in that respect, he is no different than any other seriously impaired fundie from any religion whose beliefs in some god control their every thought, decision and move.

5. thank you, I was losing hope
the guy is a nut and putting him to death will only play in the hands of Al Quaeda.

Of course he is guilty. He is guilty of participating in a plot. And probably at low level. But it's only in dictaorships that you put those kind of guys to death. I am not defending him because he's French (even if he has in practice denounced his citizenship). If he had been tried in France he's had got ten years. That's what the Islamist guy recently delivered by the Brits and responsible for financing the bombings 95 in Paris that killed dozens of people and injured even more. They counted his time in the UK, else he'll got 30 years. But not death.

Justice is not about vengeance. That's what makes the difference betwwen him and us. In reality the people that want his death only because he was plotting are not much better than him.

8. That's the impression I have gotten ...
...except his lunacy transcends the (un)usual religiously insane person. I wonder if he has a diagnosable mental illness vs. "others" who I suspect would not have been diagnosed with anything other than being religiously insane.

3. I think he's a fucking piece of shit with a major martyr complex.
He's begging to die because in is mind he needs the "respect" that comes with it. Listening to the NPR coverage not even his fellow members had even the slightest bit of respect for him.

I say let him live out of sheer spite... or kill him. Doesn't really matter to me.

7. That's my point, and I salute you for posting it...
"He's begging to die because in is mind he needs the "respect" that comes with it."

:patriot:

All of his bullshit, all of his stories about getting a transistor radio so he could listen to the wonderful moment of 3000 people fucking DYING...

I think living would be about a million times worse than dying for this piece of horseshit, so I'd really like to see him live. Behind bars. For a L-O-N-G time. My guess is that the tough talk dies down after the first 15 minutes of getting his fat ass kicked.

4. Other: Crazier than a shit house rat
I believe that he is delusional and a pathological liar, and that his involvement with AQ was marginal at best.

6. They ought to let him go
and throw in a free ride to where ever he wants to go. He'd lead the authorities straight to his boss.

10. I've been sick of this guy for a lot longer than two minutes.
If he is clinically insane, I hope he gets help. Seriously, no sarcasm intended.

If he isn't, I hope he reaps the harvest he deserves. Put him on the streets and let life sort things out.

You can call that hate if you'd like. I don't, but I also don't care about what you want to call it. I'm sick of this asshole's big Osama-praising mouth.

12. It's a reference to the book 1984, by George Orwell.
FWIW, I don't care a fig about him, he's a stage prop, but I realize that is a minority attitude.

11. I think this character is a nut BUT.......
what has he done to actually deserve the death penalty? Sure, lock him up for life, but KILL HIM? I think this guy is being used as Americas one chance to revenge the events of 9/11.

13. Other
How about a fair trial?

The news that the jury is considering the death penalty is breaking over here and I my first reaction was - why, for what crime?

What crime would he have committed that warants the death penalty? Omitting to tell the US authorities about the planned attack? Taking flight lessons in Minnesota to become the 20th hijacker? Conspiring to commit a terrorist attack?

I just don´t get it.
