Brings back memories to see him resign. I think Howard Dean would have tried to keep the ads up somehow, even though Time Warner went along with DeLay and took them down. But he had threatened to sue DFA also, so the ad was dropped.



Then later we put up a billboard in his Texas district. Made him mad but he didn't threaten to sue.

I thought about Richard Morrison, a Dean Dozen, who ran against him, called attention to the fact that he was vulnerable in many ways....and then this time when he ran again against him, he was asked to drop for another candidate.

A lot of us were really attached to him, donated a lot. They asked him to drop out, he refused at first and kept running..then he suddenly dropped out with little explanation.

I am still on his mailing list, which puts me on the TX Democrats mailing list and all the candidates there like John Courage.

5. He had some valid personal reasons for dropping out

Cash issues, family issues--his letter of withdrawal:

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is with great sadness that I must withdraw my name from the race for District 22. As you all know I devoted 2 years of my life to win and placed my law practice on hold. With the prospects of having to spend another 2 years winning a primary and then challenging DeLay, my family’s financial situation is not the rosiest. My wife is expecting our 5th child in August and I feel that I must devote my time to getting my financial house in order. I think the biggest issue this county faces is our national debt and for me and mine to be facing debt that could quickly become unmanageable is irresponsible and unwise.


My mother and children's grandmother has also been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. She has vowed to me that she will fight it every step of the way and I have committed to help her with that fight. I ask for your prayers for her and my father.

I am not giving up my fight. I will continue to stay active and work hard for democrats. I ask that you do the same. Tom DeLay is bad for democracy and bad for America. If I can be so bold, I demand that each one of you will commit to work as hard for Congressman Lampson or Councilman Quan as you did for me. Democracy will suffer if you slack off even one bit.

Please do more in your community than just Democratic politics. Become active in Rotary, the local Chamber of Commerce, or your church, mosque or synagogue. Volunteer and began to carry the load in these organizations. Become indispensable to them. And when the conversations turn to politics, let them know that you are a Democrat. Demonstrate by your service that the Democratic Party cares. Through our service we can win back what we have lost and make this great county better.

Finally, I want to thank each one you who has contributed their time,
talent and treasure. This campaign was a campaign of service to the people of District 22 and each of you deserve all of the credit. I would not have been the candidate I was without your support.

8. Don't count Morrison out totally

A lot of folks contribute, in VERY effective fashion, to the party without being a candidate. One can be plenty effective as a staffer, the hours are still brutal but the pay is OK, and then run later if they choose.

I mean, after all, it's a former DeLay staffer that we have to thank for a big swipe at the DeLay-Abramoff House of Cards. Good old Emily (GET OUT OF THE WAY) Miller, with the help of a 24 year old waitress and a major case of 'SCORNED!' gets my vote for Staffer of the Year!!!!

10. And he works and seeks donations for other candidates.

He still does a lot. But way too many have been asked to drop out. First they want them to run, then discourage them.

11. It is a sad state of affairs, but it all comes down to the ugly crap that

goes on behind the scenes. Sometimes it is polling, when your candidate doesn't have enough name recognition, you're short on cash, and you have someone else who has already jumped that hurdle. Sometimes it is a demographic challenge in the district in question. Other times, they've done their own oppo research and found a skeleton in the closet. If the skeleton isn't a killer, then they can recycle the candidate later, but first the candidate has to find an opportunity to mention the skeleton outside the context of a campaign and put it behind him or her. And some times, it's just a bit of quid pro quo--you've got two equally good possibilities, and longtime mega-contributor Moneybags like the candidate behind curtain number two, so he is accomodated to keep the pump primed. It IS a lot like making sausage--hideous to watch. We're lucky we get any good candidates at all, when ya think about it--which says a lot, in positive fashion, for the quality of our platform and the strength of our ideals.

He was constantly nipping at Tom DeLay's heels. He did not win that first time, had to drop out the 2nd try...but he got things moving. Kudos to Morrison.
