When I think of the achievement of the Iraqi resistance, it blows my mind. Vietnam had the material and training assistance of China and the U.S.S.R. in its war against us, plus 2,000 years' experience resisting foreign occupation.

The Iraqi resistance has had no analagous country supporting it, only occasional Muslims of conscience, and while it has a vibrant history of resisting foreign occupation, it really has only had to do so for the past 80 years.

On the other hand, our occupation of Iraq has not been as extensive as our occupation of Vietnam (at least, not yet). In 1968, we had 532,000 U.S. forces in Vietnam. I think the highest we've gotten in Iraq is just under 170,000.
