3. It's going to take a generation or more to reverse the damage.
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 12:38 AM by Selatius
I'm not sure it's possible before my life ends, and I'm 24 right now! Pray your daughter's generation isn't eaten up by war and hardship like my generation was. We will inherit the eight trillion dollar national debt. We will inherit the budget deficits. We will inherit the trade deficits, and we will inherit all the wrongs and ills committed in the past and given to us by our nation's fathers.

We have common cause, your daughter and us all. . . the pendulum swings slow but it does turn. . .

6. understandable that you would rant. my empathy, Flabbergasted. but...
Americans too craven to die for their ideals
*(please see my *note below)
By Chris Satullo
Jul. 03, 2005

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/columnists/12042611.htm

Some men, flawed but rising to their moment, signed a document 229 years ago in Philadelphia. It ended with these words: "We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

-snip-

If we all had the guts to die for the idea we call America, the halls of Congress would be jammed, the White House encircled, by citizens demanding an end to the sinful violations of our ideals: Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, and "extraordinary rendition."

-snip-

Instead, near silence. Alibis. Self-absorbed complicity.

-snip-

I'd rather risk death than see the idea of America embodied in our Constitution be mocked and soiled the way George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld have done in the last four years.

-snip-

***

*(*note: in my humble opinion, this should really discuss: "...too craven to die, or even march, demonstrate, or anything risky or difficult, really, to save the planet." but the point still stands)

(no need reply. just dropping a thought and running. i recommend reading the whole article.)

7. It's the Circle Game
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you’re older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and dawn
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we con only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him
Take your time, it won’t be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and dawn
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur
Coming true
There’ll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Joni Mitchell... way back when..
