I was just thinking, could this be the wedge issue for November. Could the Senate revive this before the November elections? And if so, to what end?

Looking for some political analysis.

1. Where's the up or down vote?
It passed out of committee, didn't it? Where's my vote?

3. Political manuvering has made it almost impossible to get anything through
the Senate. The repukes seem to be adding amendments to it for the hell of it. It's a good way to kill a bill that you don't like.

Additionally, even if something did get through, the repukes may very well use their majority to stop it from going through. I gues there are 50 ways to kill a bill in the Senate.

2. I Think It's Going To Get Panned Until AFTER The Elections!
That way We The People can't form an opinion or a reply!

4. doubtful

Buchanan and Blankely were predicting the Republican leadership would pull the bill on Friday.

No, it wedges both Parties too much, though it wedges Republicans more. Neither side wants it.

I've been unsure whether to consider it a social or an economic issue fight between Republicans. But if we're looking for hard split between their moderates and hardliners, on social issues the upcoming South Dakota abortion ban lawsuit looks to be it. On economic issues it's the tax cut extension fight next month. The hardliners can't afford to defer or lose either fight.

5. "..[I]t wedges both parties.."
That is true, Lexingtonian. This issue isn't split by party lines. I know repubs who are for open borders and amnesty (pro-business) and Dems who want to put all illegal workers on buses and send them home.

I haven't been satisfied that the Senate bill will truly enforce sanctions against employers, so I'm not opposed to giving it more time and debate. (Although, I'm pretty sick of Sen. Kyl's showboating!)
