Please DU this Network neutrality petition if you haven't done so yet ...
Thanks, folks!

Hi,

Not only are media giants trying to privatize the
internet, but now Congress appears to be capitulating
to their demands. We recently emailed to tell you
about the threats to "net neutrality" - there are some
new developments you should know about, and we need
your voice now more than ever to protect the open
internet we have all come to depend on.

Network neutrality is the principle that Internet
users should be able to access any web content or
applications they choose without restrictions or
limitations imposed by their Internet service
provider. For example, if you are shopping for a new
appliance online you should be able to shop on any and
all websites, not just the ones with whom your provider
has a preferred business relationship.

But now, telecommunications companies like AT&T and
Verizon are lobbying Congress for the right to control
where you go on the Internet, how fast you get there,
and how much you pay for the service - violating the
principle of network neutrality in order to increase
their own profit margins.

In other words, your favorite websites and blogs
might be left in the slow lane of the information
superhighway. Take action to protect a free and open
internet for all.

UPDATE:Last week, key lawmakers protested proposed
legislation in U.S. Congress that would weaken net
neutrality. The proposed legislation omits language that
prevents broadband providers from blocking or impairing
access to Internet content. Instead, the draft only allows
the Federal Communications Commission to investigate
blocking abuses after the fact, and prohibits the FCC
from creating new net neutrality rules.

Our first step is to send a strong message now to business
leaders. Tell them that the principle of net
neutrality needs to be honored, and that Internet
service providers (ISPs) should not play gatekeepers!

Thank you for making a difference today,
