Sestak acknowledged that his journey through the medical system and healthcare bureaucracy changed him.

“I had been sympathetic but not empathetic,” Sestak told The Hill. “You live in an oncology ward for four months and your perspective changes.”

After the chemotherapy, Alexandra had lost her hair. While Sestak was running errands with her along one day this year, a young boy, whom Sestak said meant no harm, asked Alexandra, who was wearing a dress, if she was a boy or a girl.

Sestak held his breath — unsure about what to do.

“My daughter kept quiet for a moment” before telling the boy that she is a girl, Sestak said, adding that she pointed to the few strands of hair on her head and said to him, “‘Daddy, can’t he see my hair?’”

matters except getting them the BEST help they need to give them the BEST chance to get them better so they can LIVE as LONG and healthy a life as possible... politics and everything else be DAMNED.

My thoughts, prayers and best get well wishes go out to this sweet little girl and her loving parents.

This is an incrediblty mean spirited and insensitve attack even for a neo-CON RePUKE. :grr: Hopefully the voters of PA will be as horrified as I am at this type of tactic, see Sestak's outstanding qualifications and vote him into office.

You gave me the impression that some freepers were explicitly voicing a nasty attack, so that the RW candidate could get the benefit of it while not appearing to be going negative.

This attack wasn't just from freepers. The story you linked to reports that it was Congressman Weldon himself who criticized Joe Sestak over his choice of a hospital for his daughter's cancer treatment.

Well, I guess he figures he won't get any votes by talking about Iraq or health care or stuff like that.

What parent would forgo getting the best expertise for one's child when the life was in grave danger - for a political decision. If Weldon were to push this as an 'issue' - it will slap in him much more than it will gain for him.

Oops, I forgot about the IOKIYAR exception to every rule, law, principle, dictum, guiding light, or good idea: It's okay if you're a Republican to lie to the American people and kill thousands of people, shotgun a man in the face, out a CIA operative, etc., etc. But it's unforgivable to seek the best health care available for your daughter with cancer.

This is part of Weldon's carpetbagger attack. His challenger just retired as a Vice-Admiral in the Navy in January. He lived where the Navy ordered him to live - often on an aircraft carrier. He always kept his voting address in this district, but he currently rents and doesn't own a home in the district. His family is staying near Washington while they care for his daughter. They didn't want to move her from care at a hospital that specializes in pediatric brain tumors.

The same thing happened over in the race for the House seat in Bucks County. Patrick Murphy was attacked as a carpetbagger because he hasn't continually lived in the district. He was in Iraq serving as a captain in the 82nd Airborne.

"Figures released this week by the two camps indicate Weldon has raked in $450,000 in the first three months of the year. While eye-opening, that’s not totally unexpected. What is not is the numbers compiled by Sestak. He has accumulated $420,000 since entering the race on Feb. 1. Democrats have struggled in recent years struggled to raise money in their battles against Weldon. That won’t be the case this year. Sestak is attracting attention - and money - from national Democratic groups as well as folks right here at home. Weldon will do the same. By the time they’re done, the totals could be staggering."
