Poll: Ohio Voters Tired of GOP

A recent poll taken by the U of Akron Bliss Institute shows a clear majority of voters in Ohio want Dems to retake control of state government. Ohio Dems need to make sure we make the best of this opportunity by only electing the best and brightest from our ranks - with no corruption.

"Republican fatigue is particularly evident among the Democrats surveyed. But 62 percent of the important swing voters said they'd like to end the GOP dominance that began 15 years ago, according to a telephone poll of likely primary voters conducted by the University of Akron's Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.

"If the desire for change is strong enough, it could affect Republicans up and down the ticket," Bliss Institute Director John Green told a news conference. "

1. Ohioans, more than anybody else in the country.....

ought to be ready to frogmarch the GOP out of the state house.

3. But Dems have to be careful

They have their own share of nincompoops, hangers on, con men and Vichy Dems, who've managed to survive like cockroaches during the lean years and are ready to jump back into government, usually in secondary roles. Though he's a great guy, Ted Strickland has quite a few linked to his campaign.

On edit: Not wishing to sound too cynical, the vast majority of Ohio Dem leaders are good, hard working people and there are many new up and coming people who can contribute a great deal to a Dem led administration, if they're allowed. We should maximize the opportunity to use the best and brightest.

4. This seems to conflict with the report that Blackwell is retaining

a lead.

5. Strickland ahead

of Blackwell and Petro by 4 points. That's all I remember of the numbers, but Bill Cohen reported yesterday on NPR that it was surprising, given all the discontent with the GOP in Ohio, that Ted's lead wasn't greater.

is over his GOP primary opponent.

Strickland is ahead of both of them, by about 10 points over Blackwell and 13 points over Petro

7. Last fall

In Ohio they had a couple of referenda. There were something like 6 questions on it. One favored the Republicans
and five favored the Democrats. Some Ohio newspaper with a reputation had polling indications of the outcome.

On the question that Republicans favored, it said that the republicans would win something like 56% to 44%. This
is pretty much what happened. On some of the questions that Democrats favored, the polls said the Democrats would
win by better than a 60-40 margin. Surprise! They LOST by better than a 60-40 margin. Not on one question, but on
ALL FIVE.

Why do you think Blackwell is so smug? Unless the Diebold machines are disqualified, the results are not what the
polls say they are, the results are what Blackwell and his friends want them to be.

My brother does top secret computer stuff for the Defense Department, and while he never talks about his own work, he
knows all about the machines, and he says it is the easiest thing in the world to program, and then have a program
to erase the command once the result has been reported. I asked him if it could be detected. He said a good computer
forensics specialist would find the hanky-panky, but for that to happen, the voting machines have to be examined first.
Republicans have gone before sympathetic judges and had their voting machines declared private property, and therefore
off limits to anyone without a court order to get them checked, or permission, which is never granted.

Ohio's voters might want one thing, but unless the Diebold machines are scrapped, the vote itself will be another thing entirely.

8. Unfortunately, it's not just Ohio. I do not think we will see Democrats

win anywhere in 2006, even if they are leading by 20-50 points in all polls. Democracy is dead in the USA.

9. Taft. Blackwell. Noe. Jean Schmidt. My god I bet they ARE ready for

a switch in parties.

With a lot of hard work the 06 elections are going to be strongly blue, and where better for a blue tsunami than the Buckeye State? No point in getting cocky about it, but there's every reason to rally the troops and be hopeful.

10. Note to Ohioans

Diebold doesn't care what you think :eyes:
