Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will soon be re-introducing The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act before the U.S. Congress.
National Call-In Day
Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act
We are asking folks to participate in representative government TODAY by calling your three members of the United States Congress.
Each American citizen is represented in Congress by one House Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives and two Senators in the U.S. Senate.
These three people go to Congress to represent YOU! But they can only do their job effectively if you express your desires and opinions to them.
On Thursday, April 6th, we are asking you to let them know your feelings about genetically engineered foods.
Here are the three points we suggest to make when you call:
1) You want all genetically engineered foods to be labeled. Ask them to cosponsor the "Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act."
2) You want all genetically engineered foods to be adequately safety-tested. Currently the biotech companies that are creating the genetically engineered crops are doing the safety-testing. We want all genetically engineered foods to be safety tested similar to what is required for a new food additive.
3) You want Congressional hearings into the contamination of organic crops from genetically engineered crops. Organic crops are becoming contaminated by cross-pollination from genetically engineered crops. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) knows this is happening, but is ignoring it. We want the House and Senate Agriculture committees to hold a hearings on this matter. We want the Secretary of Agriculture called before the House and Senate Agriculture committees to explain why the USDA is allowing the biotech industry to benefit at the expense of the organic agriculture.
