Kerry and Allard Scrap on the Senate Floor — The Veteran vs. the Veterinarian: Who Do You Trust?
April 6th, 2006 @ 5:34 pm

Wayne Allard staged a deplorable, vile attack on John Kerry today on the Senate Floor. It was a cowardly act, as Kerry was in a committee meeting at the time of the attack. He returned to the Senate floor to rebuke Allard’s attack after his committee and issued a scathing rebuttal (to be posted soon).

Just who does Wayne Allard think he is? I don’t know a lot of people who will stand for a veterinarian questioning a veterans’ patriotism.

While Kerry was in committee, Wayne Allard said:

“I would like to start off by saying I’ve been very supportive of the president on the war of Iraq because he has had a plan and he has stayed the course. That’s what gives me confidence in the president.

I do think that what we see today in the criticism of the president from Senator Kerry, we’re seeing an individual who’s being spun in the political winds, unlike the president. When he calls the strategy of today counter productive and that we fought to pull out our forces immediately out of Iraq is a catastrophic suggestion. And it’s not anything that we should consider very seriously. you know, it wasn’t that far—long ago when Senator Kerry was saying that it would be a disaster and a disgraceful betrayal of principle to speed up the process to simply lay the groundwork for political expedient withdrawal of American troops.”

Wayne Allard’s attack on John Kerry’s Iraq plan today were absolutely despicable. It reeked of another instance of Swift Boat’ism — John Kerry is a decorated Vietnam veteran who fought in a war gone bad just as Iraq has. Kerry has proven over and over again that he has the courage to speak the truth to power, about what he sees in Iraq – just as Jack Murtha has.

For Wayne Allard, a veterinarian, to stand up and attack a Vietnam veteran for speaking out for American troops the way John Kerry did is unacceptable and quite frankly in my book, “counter productive” and a “disgraceful betrayal” of our “American troops” and our Veterans.

John Kerry Responds to Senator Allard’s Iraq Attacks with a Stunning Rebuke

"Well, let me make it clear to the Senator from Colorado and anybody who wants to debate Iraq, when it comes to issues of war and peace and of young Americans dying, nobody spins me period."

I am very please with Kerry! First we had his op-ed in NY Times in which he outlines an exit strategy out of Iraq, and today he told Wolf Blitzer that he supports hearings into censuring Bush.

Bush has his exit strategery, sometime after January 20, 2009. This is totally unacceptable!

8. Not really, Senator Kerry has always said whenever he has spoken about
Iraq, that the President was running out of time to get it right. His last speech provided a guideline for winning the peace and obtaining so type of victory in Iraq. However, as I said, Senator Kerry emphasized that there was only so much time to change the course and get it right in Iraq or civil war would likely be the result. You know the rest. Senator Kerry has always been upfront on Iraq. If he wanted to score points, he could have come out before and declare we should pull out. He remained an optimist- and he still holds out some hope- that the Iraq's will form a united government. Things have changed dramatic-ly since October, 2005 and when events changes we should be opened minded and be able to change course also-without people suspecting ulterior motives.

Your entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with it. Senator Kerry is a good man who is trying to set this country back on the right track- just like Feingold.

11. I think you misunderstood rodeodance...
He was replying to the poor soul who has Wayne Allard for a Senator, saying that he doesn't know what it's like to have a shitty senator, since he apparently lives in WI and has Feingold. I am the same way - I live in Illinois and my senators rock, so I empathize with people who have to deal with shitheads like Allard.

That's what rodeodance was saying.

Coleman and who knows else. When you get selected to serve by a machine and not by the people judging you on your merits (as is true of el Presidente) you're not prone to say or do uplifting things. And a country run by un-elected reps is not likely to take the road of reason.

Senator who IS a veteran, especially, as marmar indicated, a guy who's a lot smarter than he is.

Allard, like so many of the current crop of corrupt Republicans, honors party loyalty over representation of the people's best interest. He's a footstool.

Possible the attacks on Senator Kerry re Iraq are so vehement because Kerry has introduced a workable plan, while the president and his flunkies sit around blathering about "progress" and "freedom on the march."

It hits a nerve, and these Republicans aren't very good sports to begin with.

(thanks to Tay-Tay for the heads-up & info on Allard)

Nice to see you again. It's been a pretty good day for John Kerry and not such a good day for the BushCo folks. And that all adds up to a pretty good day on DU for liberals and progressives, etc.

I think a lot of people are listening carefully to what Kerry is saying on Iraq these days. And that's good, because he's making good sense.

You hang in there and I hope to run into you again soon on DU.

When are you volunteering to go to Iraq to fight Bush's War?

To:
Sen. Wayne Allard

April 6, 2006

From your remarks to the Honorable Senator Kerry today, it seems like you are a firm believer in this war based on lies. Why don't you quit your nice cushy job in the Senate and go over there and fight. Oh I forgot, you Republicans would rather have other people kids die for Halliburton profit margins. You all are a piece of work. Can't wait till you and your kind are sweeping up garbage from the the halls of Congress as janitors.

30. Media mischaracterizing Kerry goes back to operatives in the Nixon WH and
efforts were ramped up during the Reagan-Bush years when Kerry exposed them on IranContra, BCCI and illegal wars in Central America.

Kerry has had memes and stories planted against him by the scummiest powers in DC for over 3 decades. Why? Because he dares to expose the corruption of their policies.

Too bad so many budding journalists bought into the planted characterizations.

Allard or any other Senator would say this kind of shit today after what was revealed yesterday. What scares me is that he seems so confident that his constituents here in Colorado will continue to support him if he continues to support the pResident. What is up Allard's sleeve? I gotta wonder when was the last time Allard walked the streets of Metropolitan Denver? Every single day I see several anti-bush shirts, stickers, signs, etc. etc.

We threw the right wing fundy Bushbots out of the State legislature in 2004 and we're going to throw this asswipe out of the Senate in 2008.
