U.S. Aid in Iraq Now Equal to Assistance in Germany After World War II
U.S. assistance to Germany totaled some $4.3 billion ($29.3 billion in 2005 dollars) for the years of direct military government (May 1945-May 1949) and the overlapping Marshall Plan years (1948/1949-1952).

2. Except no American servicemen/women were killed in Germany
during the occupation of that country - except for a few traffic type accidents. But not from hostile fire.

Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 10:07 PM by Ilsa

4. Well, that's so easily disposed of.
The GIs killed in Iraq aren't the only deaths. There's civilian murders and car accidents on top of that.

The analogy for a US soldier (or an Iraqi soldier or policeman) getting killed in Iraq would be a cop killing in the US. A cop killing in the US is a big deal. Doesn't happen six times a week.

5. Whenever I hear them say this "comparative" crap about US deaths,
I get angry about how dismissive they are of any of these deaths. I also get pissed about how it is such a bogus argument.

6. What am I missing here, I ran the CPI calculator
and found that $1 in 1945 was equal to $10.85 in 2005. So, what is 4.3 billion times 10.85? It is not 29.3 billion. So, 4,300,000,000 x 10.85=how much?

8. I worked through the math
4.3 Billion in 1945 equates to 46.655 billion in 2005 dollars.
