67. Kos linked to a Thank You Harry site. I tried to sign and leave comments
but got message that I couldn't "Change Headers"???? Didn't try to change headers or use any HTML,when I tried to send it again, got message "You already said that"???

Oh Well, maybe other DUers will have more luck and there are 1301 interesting comments and the Kos article said they hoped to have 1 million Americans thanking Harry for standing up and speaking the truth to Bush which takes a lot of courage these days.

'In my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of my leadership in Washington,” Taylor told the president. “And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself.”'

65. Thanks for looking it up.
Harry would have been just what Rockwell was looking for. The article says with Hess "True to form, Rockwell idealized Hess a bit, trimming him of about 100 pounds."

So Harry Looks like Rockwell's idealized version of Hess more then he does Hess.

I enjoyed seeing him on CNN, indeed comes across as a noble Rockwell character. I hope we can hear more from him. Simple, intelligent, clear and direct.

interesting, that the web site author notes he could have been a plant.

That's a tough call. Watched this man today and he was just too full of sincerity, integrity, compassion and one could feel his heart just breaking.

A plant would not have had those qualities.

Obviously, anyone who really believes that old song-n-dance and the smoke-n-mirrors that Rove worked to develop for that little show isn't as sincere about Bush getting his genocidal ass frogmarched down the front steps of the white house.

Another thought: Can the UN take action against our president the same way they are working on a resolution against Iran?

Just thinking what a beautiful day it would be if Bush and his cabinet were arrested by a UN black ops team somewhere in the middle of the night, LOL!

From the OP by TheWitch

I'm gonna come out and say it: I think Harry Taylor was a plant.
There's a number of linguistic and other clues that his question of the president was previously thought out and memorized, and there are a number of choices that make me think this was not written by someone who is truly upset with the presidency.

Let's go to the transcript, boys and girls.

50. There's also the possibility
that he could have just memorized what he was going to say. Whenever I'm in a situation like that (Q&A, I mean, never been to a Bush "event") I either write down what I want to say or memorize it.

I don't think he was a plant because of how Bush handled it either, unless his handlers are really slipping (yeah, I know, but bear with me). If they wanted Bush to respond to a criticism--a "look, he's answering actual questions/dissent! What's your problem, hippie?!" type thing--this was absolutely not the effective way to do it. They want to neutralize the opposition by making us look like fanatical borderline-crazy people. Having a seemingly thoughtful, quiet man in a sweater calmly express outrage is not the way to do it. Bush and his handlers are ignorant of a lot of things, but they know PR.

Funny you should mention this. I teach a course in "social movements and advocacy" and last night I was teaching my class about communication and the image one wants to project when speaking to a public body like a town council.

I told them to appear reasonable, calm, logical, and organized. Avoid any appearance of "fringe."

This is just an absolutely awesome development. Forces (not our "leaders") are working on our behalf.

Don't know which clip you saw, but the chimp looked like he wanted to commit murder and could just barely restrain himself. By the time Harry was finished, you could have fried an egg with the steam coming out of his ears.

I doubt he would have had that reaction if it was a plant.

61. He seems to be Legit to the MAX I got this from MoveOn.org
Dear MoveOn member,

Together, we work hard to help real Americans change the way things work in Washington. And with the folks that are currently in power, it's an uphill battle. So it's gratifying when it happens—and this week, it happened twice.
Harry Taylor of Charlotte, NC, a MoveOn member and Operation Democracy leader, confronts President Bush at a town hall meeting

First, there's the budget. For weeks, we've been working to stop the Republicans' reverse-Robin Hood budget. On Wednesday, John Boehner (Tom DeLay's replacement in the House) vowed he would force it through.1 But last night, after even more members of his own party told him they were jumping ship, he threw in the towel and cancelled the vote. We woke up to read one of those headlines you love to see in the Washington Post, "GOP Budget Talks Collapse in the House".2

This was a come-from-behind victory for vital health care, education, and family services that millions of Americans depend on every day. So how did it happen? Simply put, unrelenting pressure from the grassroots proved stronger than the combined forces of corporate lobbyists, Republican leaders and the White House—and MoveOn members played a major role. In the last 3 weeks alone, you:

Organized 106 local media events at key congressional offices
Made over 8,000 phone calls to Congress in just 72 hours
Wrote over 10,000 personal letters to "swing vote" representatives
Mailed over 15,000 personal letters to fellow voters in a few critical districts—asking those voters to speak up on this vital issue
The budget event in Charlotte, North Carolina was led by a small business owner named Harry Taylor. Harry's a leader of his local "Operation Democracy" team. Operation Democracy is MoveOn's network of committed members who organize events to ensure that Congress and the media pay attention to what local folks have to say —but Harry took it to the next level.

As you know, President Bush often holds "town hall" events where he takes questions from a hand picked crowd of "real people." Yesterday one of the people was, well, real.

In a hostile room, with the attention of the national media focused on him, here's what Harry Taylor stood up and said to the President of the United States:

HARRY TAYLOR: You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. If I were a woman, you'd like to restrict my opportunity to make a choice and decision about whether I can abort a pregnancy on my own behalf. You are—

PRESIDENT BUSH: I'm not your favorite guy. Go ahead. (Laughter and applause.) Go on, what's your question?

HARRY TAYLOR: Okay, I don't have a question. What I wanted to say to you is that I—in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened by my leadership in Washington, including the presidency, by the Senate, and—

AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Booo!

PRESIDENT BUSH: No, wait a sec—let him speak.

HARRY TAYLOR: And I would hope—I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration, and I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and the grace to be ashamed of yourself inside yourself. And I also want to say I really appreciate the courtesy of allowing me to speak what I'm saying to you right now. That is part of what this country is about.

When we saw this story on the news, we checked to see if Harry was a MoveOn member. That's when we found out he was also the leader of an Operation Democracy team in Charlotte.

This is what MoveOn is all about—millions of us working together to bring the basic progressive values of fairness and decency back into American politics. Sometimes we make waves by the thousands, and sometimes we do it one at a time. But no matter what, we're all in this together.

If you're not already part of the Operation Democracy network, we'd love you to join the team. You can sign up online at:
