Cheney on Fox asserting his right to declasify information
I'm sure this has been pointed out, I don't keep up on all the threads, but I vaguely remember some months back Dick Cheney on Fox News, completely off topic, asserting his right to declassify documents as an 'extension' of what a president can do...

I remmeber thinking, "This is totally off-topic..why is he saying this now?"...

I guess we know why..

Anyone else remember this?

4. Yep...it was insurance for a moment just such as this...
they anticipated that Libby may turn and they were setting it up beforehand, in my opinion.

Libby Testified He Was Told To Leak Data About Iraq

By Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, February 10, 2006; Page A08

Vice President Cheney's former chief of staff testified that his bosses instructed him to leak information to reporters from a high-level intelligence report that suggested Iraq was trying to obtain weapons of mass destruction, according to court records in the CIA leak case.

Cheney was one of the "superiors" I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby said had authorized him to make the disclosures, according to sources familiar with the investigation into Libby's discussions with reporters about CIA operative Valerie Plame.

8. And I remember a lengthy post
Saying that Cheney has no such powers. There is only one executive who has that power and even that's debatable.

9. Was that the interview after he shot his buddy's face off?
I think I read that Cheney did an interview on Fox shortly after that.

11. Just found it. Yes, it was.
HUME: On another subject, court filings have indicated that Scooter Libby has suggested that is superiors — unidentified — authorized the release of some classified information. What do you know about that?

CHENEY: It's nothing I can talk about, Brit. This is an issue that's been under investigation for a couple of years. I've cooperated fully, including being interviewed, as well, by a special prosecutor. All of it is now going to trial. Scooter is entitled to the presumption of innocence. He's a great guy. I've worked with him for a long time, have enormous regard for him. I may well be called as a witness at some point in the case and it's, therefore, inappropriate for me to comment on any facet of the case.

HUME: Let me ask you another question. Is it your view that a vice president has the authority to declassify information?

CHENEY: There is an executive order to that effect.
