1. Great news! Good for them.
They can't steal NO's soul--now they can't steal the votes, either.

Kudos to NAACP, People for the American Way, and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and all others involved in this effort!

WAY TO GO! :toast:

2. Kudos to these organizations
for all their dedication. Not only are they organizing busses, but manning informational centers and hotlines. They want to make sure that displaced New Orleaners have a means to vote.

<snip>Kirk Clay, director of Electoral College reform for Common Cause, cited the delayed mail system as part of the reason that absentee voting is "going to be extremely difficult . the mail just isn't getting to the proper place." Clay said his organization is also working on "finding a way to promote the early vote in Louisiana . Our goal is to try to get as many people as possible to vote during the pre-vote time."<snip>

How ironic, can't depend on the US Postal System? Now that truly is a joke. :sarcasm:

3. And don't forget, 300 polling places are destroyed
300 polling places were destroyed out of 442.
If you have to vote in New Orleans on the day of the election. You need to check to see (1) if your polling place was destroyed and (2) where to vote now that your polling place is no longer there. They changed some of the "substitute" polling places on March 25th, so it is important to check again. Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE for assistance!
Only one post office opened in NOLA.
In some places:
No garbage pick up.
No electricity.
No water.
No gas.
No place to live.
No place to work.
Only a few public schools opened.
Limited health care.
Does not sound like the kind of environment to hold a local election, but then again, "they" did it in Iraq, right?
