Oh no, don't bring the Republican convention to Minneapolis
Earlier on MPR there was a story that Minneapolis is on both the Democrats and the Republicans list of where to hold the 2008 convention.

And I just know that the Republicans will come. Minnesota has become a "swing state" (sorry Humphrey and Wellstone); if you remember, it was late into the night before Minnesota was claimed by Kerry. The Twin Cities Metro Area now extends well into the exurbs and the people there drive Hummers and love Cabella. The store even received special incentives to open there.

And, an opportunity to prep Norm for all the cheap work he has done for them.

Ugh. I hope I am wrong. But if not, I will find out the quarantine ward where protesters will be allowed.

2. I live in Tampa and recently the local news
announced that the city is bidding to host the repukes, too! I think they may get it, too. We have lots of sex clubs and I've read recently that the child sex industry is big here. The perverts at the RNC will know about Tampa and vote it up.

4. What if they gave a convention and
nobody would let them in the city limits?

Dog your city councils now to just say no to the RNC! And make sure the press knows you are doing it!

I think it would be hilarious to see them refused at every turn.

6. With the "no tax, only fee" Republican governor
cutting funds for the cities, especially the inner ones, having all this money coming would be hard to refuse, even by a Democratic mayor.

7. Might be a good way to point out the weaknesses in such a plan.
I was actually joking, but as a muni employee myself, I can see this being rather effective.

8. I'm hoping we choose Denver
Colorado is bluer now than 2000, and Democrats took back the state legislature for the first time since the 1960's, and elected Ken Salazar. Colorado may also elect a Democratic Governor in 2006. I think that by choosing the Mountain West, we are signaling the realignment of the region.

11. Maybe MN is a "swing state," but Minneapolis itself is a very blue city.
And I think we can put together some really excellent demonstrations. Let's take their money and hassle the hell out of 'em. Bring it on, Republican losers. We can take you.
