A question about Harry Reid and his pro-life stance .......
Like most of you, I would prefer we have a leader who is more in step with the majority of those in our party.

I am not a particularly strong supporter of Reid, but I do have some respect for him.

My question to those more well-informed about this than me: How has his pro-life stance, specifically, affected his job, his leadership, or our party?

Please ... no general opinions of him. My question is pointed and narrow to that one issue. And I ask it in relation to the other Dems who may also hold such a view and who are either now in office or seeking ofice. Casey in PA is one who comes to mind.

3. I guess that goes toward confirming my impression of him .......
...... that he has a view and holds it honestly, but that he's not an activist to change what is, indeed, settled law. I can't think of anything he's done to change things around this issue. That said, if ever there were a vote directly to abortion rights, he'd likely cross over to vote his conscience. And therein lies the rub.

4. I think there are many principled "pro-life" Dems who would prefer
to let Roe v. Wade stand as the decision was originally written.

Truthfully, Congress hasnt really had to face down the issue squarely yet and I imagine that they'd rather not regardless of which side of the issue or the aisle they are on.

Another example I can think of is Ed Schultz, the talk-shjow host.

He is often criticized for his "pro-life" stance, but has often expressed real concern over the threat to Roe v. Wade.

5. He'd probably vote against it...but
I am sure he would not filibuster or lead any kind of opposition

6. I'm struck by the assertion that any of these "leaders" are in step with
the "majority of those in our party".

wow!

8. I think that it has in no way at all effected his job performance
I remember this is a big deal when he got the job as minority leader. But he definately opposed Roberts and Alito. Whether he has done a good job as leader is another issue. But I don't think that he has let his personal pro-life views get in the way of his work.
